Fresh off Clarion Alley Mural Project’s protest of Mission Local and Genentech’s tech shuttle contest that featured the alley without permission, CAMP muralists put up a loaded new piece right at the gateway to the alley. It’s another criticism of San Francisco’s gentrification, for sure, but at least no one can criticize them for not proposing solutions.

Interesting how the local murals seem to have gone from calling for revolution to calling for changes to local ordinances and state tax codes. Is the city growing up?

This is utterly stupid.

Why?

Its just as trendy as the shit he’s bitching about. So lame.

Do you mean like aesthetically? I’m interested in what about it is trendy, and what you mean by that. As well as what the problem with that is.
I for one am not sure that “bitching about” Ellis Evictions and displacement is “trendy,” so much as people are genuinely terrified and deeply concerned. The amount of families that have lost their homes and been forced out of the city is staggering. For many, losing a place in SF also means losing their community, support system, safety net, and being driven away from their friends, family and other loved ones. Sometimes it makes it impossible for them to keep their job, their kids have to switch schools, and their whole lives are disrupted. And it’s horrifying to see diversity seeping out of the city. Black people make up only 6% of our population, but represent 30% of people being evicted. And we’re losing women.
Also, you referred to the artist as a “he.” But if you look elsewhere, you’ll see that this mural was done by a group of men and women.

“WTF have YOU done?”

Ha, yea agreed.
I can’t beleive we all let the closing time for parks ordinance pass through. I mean in the 60s they had to call out the national guard, and people got shot, when Berkeley was going to demo a single park. Im not even sure the lack of caring was because the city is more mature or less radical, Im pretty sure our generation is just lazy frankly. I didn’t even attend the limited protest that occurred, though i did root for it from my couch drinking a Sculpin IPA

Can we print this on Mission Local’s site? or on their stupid buses?

Amazing. This is the war cry to save this amazing city from cultural death, thank you CAMP!

I like the idea that “regulate Lyft” and “bring back chess games” constitute a “war cry.”

Why?

When I was an adolescent I learned you could always call something lame or laugh it off, but that the idea still planted a seed that grew later on. Many adolsecent comments here, but I love the mural.

Shame: SF’s housing shortage making it impossible for anyone who doesn’t already live here and doesn’t have a million in cash to move in
CAMP Solution: LOL FUCK YOU N00B
Real Talk liker | [Permalink]
real talk.
Malcontent | [Permalink]
Well, as the people who are argue against rent control would say, no one has a right to live in the city. It cuts both ways I guess. More housing is only part of the solution what that housing consists of is far more important. It’s a case of inelastic demand because right now more housing at almost any cost means people will leave the penninsula and come here. But definitely build more fucking more housing, innit?
Roisin | [Permalink]
More affordable housing. More luxury condos doesn’t help, it hurts.

Shame: overly specific listy murals.
Solution: fewer overly specific listy murals.
