Following Bobby the Bike Thief's Beatdown, Deep V Rim Prices Plummet

Could it be now that the face of one of the Mission's biggest wheel thieves is all busted up, the folks at Freewheel Bike Shop are slashing prices in anticipation of a sharp decline in demand for the hottest, easily-removable fixie components?  Or, perhaps more likely, is no one these days buying glamorous rims that had a two month long ordering backlog just a couple of years ago?

Tim Lincecum Rocks Sweet Tacolicious Hat

Now that San Francisco has gone from pretending to care about football to tweeting obsessively about the impending baseball season, noted pothead and Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum greeted fans at this past weekend's FanFest with a Tacolicious cap on his head.  Does this mean the Marina/Valencia restaurant has finally 'made it'? And has Tim ever drank a Tecate there?

Seapunk Receives Coveted SF Chronicle Endorsement

THAR SHE BLOWS.

Seapunk made a big splash (zing!) in the Chronicle recently.  Or at least on their 72-year-old website.  Either way, the city's biggest publication has deemed the burgeoning Tumblr 'movement' and the aspiring fashionistas of the Academy of Art that are embracing the trend worthy of their precious attention, further strengthening the argument that seapunk is, in fact, a “thing”:

Recently, Academy of Art University students from the School of Industrial Design and the School of Fashion worked in collaboration with the Monterey Bay Aquarium to create unique designs using recycled materials. The resulting installation, “Sea Fashion Challenge,” was on display for the month of January at Atelier, at 79 New Montgomery.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium donated existing large scale banners to AAU and challenged students to create their own innovative designs with the repurposed materials. The 10 compelling design pieces now on display are also featured here on SFGate, where the public can vote on their favorite piece of work, with prizes to be awarded to the winning designs. Is this the high water mark—the point we see the wave of aquatic culture break and roll back?  We can only hope.

(Thanks for the heads up, Andrew!)

Kreayshawn Now Making Animated GIFs About Your Favorite Mission Thrift Stores

The sun is really setting on what once looked to be a really promising career as a drug dealing Lady Gaga.  In the span of 9 months, Kreayshawn has gone from Oakland to international celebrity to doing banner ads for thrift stores online.  She's basically the hipster Mr. T, only her rise and fall got condensed down to satisfy the attention span of the internet.

Benny Gold Cleans Up His Act

Benny Gold, the local skate fashion designer whose “Stay Gold” logo you've most definitely seen if you've ever been outside your house, has made a bold venture into the gourmet body care business! That's right, for $8 a bar, you can smell like your favorite bike messenger.  Or at least someone who bathes.

From a press release a couple of weeks back:

This Friday, for the first time we are venturing into the world of natural body care. Our all natural bar of soap is shaped like our iconic paper plane and available in Bulgarian Lavender, Peppermint or Lemon Verbena.

The soap is formulated with natural botanicals and essential oils. There is nothing artificial about this soap – It’s vegan and paraben-free with no artificial color or fragrance.

The packaging is made of 100% recyclable materials. It’s the perfect way to stay golden fresh!

You can score some at his 16th and Guerrero shop, or order some online.

Fitting In with the Locals or Patronizing Weirdo?

Local comedian Chris Thayer happened to drive past this dude outside the 24th St. BART station the other day and had this to say:

There's a fine line between trying to fit in with the locals and being a patronizing weirdo. If you find yourself dressed like a member of The Sonics, wearing a sombrero, and drinking a 16 oz. Budweiser (NO BAG) at 2PM on a Thursday, you've probably crossed it.

Seriously; dude could have at least shown enough respect to drink a Tecate.

(Thanks, Chris!)

American Apparel

I thought about asking this post-hipster sea punk Abbie Hoffman about what inspired this bold outfit, but I feared he'd spike my coconut water with LSD and figured I'd creepily take a photo from a safe distance instead.

Regardless, it looks like patriotism is making a big comeback this election year.
