Fayes' 14th Anniversary Means Free Coffee & Cutest Cat Contest All Weekend

According to a big sign outside, Fayes is turning 14 years old this weekend and celebrating by giving away free coffee and charging a dollar for espressos allll weekend.  Better yet?  They're holding a neighborhood cute cat contest.

You gotta submit your cat photos on their tumblr, and they're announcing their winners on Facebook.  While it's not entirely clear on what you win, you'll presumably be honored for raising such a fine feline with even more free coffee and a few days worth of free cat promotion on their sidewalk.

Tim Cohen (of the Fresh & Onlys) and 8th Grader Doing a Free Show Tonight at Brick + Mortar

Tim Cohen of The Fresh & Onlys has a side project called Tim Cohen.  He's got a Daniel Johnston-esque vibe going on with his music and artwork, so if you like sociopaths and musical genius, this will definitely be worth checking out.

Plus, Music For Animals' frontman's new side project 8th Grader is gearing up to release their latest album, so expect a lot of new stuff from them.  And while they don't have any new videos or anything, Music For Animals' If Looks Could Kill is always a fucking rad watch:

Anyway, the show is free, pints of Trumer are three bucks and all Sailor Jerry drinks are five.  See you there!

Mission Open Studios Highlights: Elliott C Nathan's Pop-Up Studio

It's Mission Open Studios time again, meaning hundreds of neighborhood artists will be opening their studio and gallery doors to the general public, giving us a weekend-long art walk of sorts.  And while many of the names and venues participating this round will be familiar to Open Studios veterans, Elliott C Nathan's (who you might remember from yesterday's tax comic or unlucky pennies) temp space at the corner of 24th and Bartlett will be a one-time deal this month and this month only.

Elliott fills us in:

I am taking over 24th and Bartlett for this weekend only; it's a pop-up open studio happening Friday evening, then Saturday and Sunday 10am - 6pm. Outside my regular work, I am also building an interactive piece that people will be able to draw all over.  I will also be featuring my line of Sunken Monkey mini skateboards.  Here's a time lapse video showing the creation of the boards:

Whoa. Sick rooftop view of the city, Elliott. (And sick boards, too)

Anyway, if you haven't already, get familiar with the Mission Open Studios calendar for this weekend and make a note to swing by Elliott's pop-up studio.

Party With the Best View in the Mission

You've always wanted to check out the view from the top of the U.S. Bank building (you know the one—at 22nd and Mission), and now you finally have a chance.

The occupants of the top floor office (some company called TypeKit, which apparently sells paradigm shifting scalable font cloud hosting mobile instagram whatever) were purchased by Adobe and moving in with their new bosses in Soma.  So, of course, they're throwing a free goodbye boozefest next Thursday at 7pm.

From the event invite:

Come celebrate with us one last time as we move out of our Mission St office with a bang. Join us for drinks, food, and music on Thursday, March 29th, at 7:00pm. As we say farewell, we’ll also welcome the new tenant—our friends at True Ventures.

You gotta RSVP to attend, so be sure to go and do that.

CONTEST: Win Tickets to The Roxie's Screening of "Skatetown, U.S.A."

This Friday, our favorite neighborhood theater, The Roxie, 21st Amendment and CellSpace are hosting “the best roller disco movie party of the summer.”  The Roxie will be showing the Scott Baio (just ask anyone born before the Cobain assassination who he is) feature, “Skatetown, U.S.A.,” pouring cheap 21st Amendment beer for the crowd, and then sending everyone over to CellSpace for their infamous roller disco party.

If you're unfamiliar with the film, the trailer says it all: terrible music, a bad haircut on wheels discharging a firearm, a man wearing a top hat with beard covered in cocaine, tits, and Patrick Swayze.  From the trailer's YouTube description:

The third installment in the devil's unholy trilogy of godawful Eighties roller disco flicks meant to destroy mankind's collective sense of good taste once and for all. Naturally, I could not possibly recommend this movie any more highly.

The Roxie adds:

Patrick Swayze’s big screen debut! Two hunks are pitted against one another in a skate competition at a roller disco. At stake? A thousand bucks and a moped. Ninety-eight minutes of non-stop music, roller skating and comedy. According to her autobiography, former Brady Bunch starlet Maureen McCormick fell into severe cocaine addiction on the set of this movie. FREE TUBE SOCKS! BEER!

If you want to take part of this drunken, cocaine-fueled evening for free, tell us your best 4-wheeled, tube sock, or cocaine story in the comments, and if we like it, we'll hook you up with a pair of tickets.  Otherwise, you can go score yourself some tickets for $10 over at the Roxie's website.

Colt 45 Blast + Uptown Almanac = Getting Drunk For Free

After reading our generally positive early review of Colt 45's new sugar booze/Four Loko clone Blast by Colt 45, Colt 45 hit us up about cohosting the new drink's launch party at 111 Minna.  Initially we were skeptical about signing on for such an event, but after they told us they'd be providing an open bar for 4 hours, we got on board.  So check it: if you're interested in getting drunk for free from 5pm-9pm tomorrow, swing over to Minna and slam as much boozy Kool-aid down your throat as possible.  Rumor has it there'll also be some DJs on the scene, so be aware of that.

Hang Out With Blek le Rat This Afternoon

Blek le Rat, one of the early pioneers of stencil graffiti, is giving a free two-hour lecture at 2pm today as part of Free University at Viracocha (21st and Valencia):

The Free University Art School is very fortunate, and proud to present the very prolific street artist Blek le Rat on his journey around the world. He stops here with us for an extensive two hour presentation, sharing his masterful stencil art with the people of The Free University of San Francisco. Blek will tell his story, share his insurgent spirit, show his work and may even create some stencil art live in person.

Hot shit!  Find out more info over at White Walls Gallery's blog.

[Sorry for the late notice, I only just found out about this myself.]

Get Yourself Some Free Peanut Butter and Banana Honey Donuts

Funcheap has the scoop:

Dynamo Donut launches their newest donut flavor – a fusion of Project Open Hand’s homemade peanut butter with a banana honey glaze.

To celebrate, Dynamo will give away FREE donuts and FREE Stiegl Goldbrau beer while supplies last. Guests are also invited to name the new donut to win a gift certificate for a dozen donuts.

I'm trying to think of good names, but everything that comes to mind involves dogs licking peanut butter off of phallic objects.  Anyway, tt goes down from 4-6pm today, so brave the rain, hail, and afternoon tornado warnings to get yourself some fresh donut action.
