The Great Outdoors

Apparently Sunsets Are Also Nice in Oakland

These last few weeks have definitely felt more like Montana summers than late fall in San Francisco.  Warm days, nights that don't make you want to curl up in the fetal position and die, and epic sunsets.

While my nightly dose of Sutro protruding into the orange sky is nice, it's refreshing to see some shots of the Port of Oakland set to the familiar orange backdrop.

Nice Evening in the Richmond

Last night I had the particular misfortune of being in the Richmond, which is some neighborhood that isn't the Mission.  Instead of being full of taquerias, dive bars and snarky internet assholes with iPhones, it was populated with Chinese restaurants, Chase banks and people generally aware of their surroundings.  Awful.  Anyway, after sneering at the lack of vegan options at the pizza place I went to, I looked up in the air and realized it was pretty outside.  Lucky for you, I had my trusty 7-year old camera that I still don't know how to operate on me at the time.

Of course, if my grainy photography isn't enough to wet your whistle, here's an HDR shot of Dolores Park, the view from the Presidio, and, the most stunning of all, a shot from the Berkeley Hills.

Sunset in Montara

Sunset Ocean Skaters from dreamerafterall.com on Vimeo.

This video isn't a must watch, but good way to squander a minute before getting back to being productive.

September 19th, 2010, on the beautiful Montara beach not far from San Francisco. Surfers were flirting with gentle waves in a playful way, safe from the great white sharks. They were looking like skaters on the ocean, offering an amusing sight to a young lady sitting in the sand, patiently waiting for her very own surfer to reappear.

17 Minute Video Reveals Life After 1906 Earthquake

San Francisco Earthquake and Fire from Red Channels on Vimeo.

I've seen a lot of short clips of footage pop up on the youtubes over the years, but never a compilation quite like this one.  It features epic shots of people sitting and lying in public spaces, wearing their Sunday best while setting up refugee camps in various parks (I believe the park featured is Alamo Square, but I don't really know shit), and tearing down destroyed buildings with ropes and pulleys.  Looks like fun!

Fucking hipsters

And all you whiny bitches thought Muni was bad today…

Two Park Movies, One Night

As I'm sure everyone in San Francisco with some degree of internet access already knows, Dolores Park will be hosting a movie night this Saturday.  The final movie night of season will feature the Cohen Bros classic The Big Lebowksi.

But not down with Dolo, you say?  Think you might puke white russian all over the cute hipster chick sitting on the grass in front of you if you have to sit through Lebowksi for the seven hundred and sixty third time since Freshmen year of college??  Over Thirty Five years old and have questionable taste in movies or a strange Will Smith fetish???

Then Duboce Park has got a night for you!!!

The Friends of Duboce Park have arranged their first ever movie screening with the San Francisco set Pursuit of Happyness, presumably to ensure a luke warm start to the program and while simultaneously deterring anyone who might consider defecting over from the Dolores Park set.

Pursuit of Hapyness @ Duboce starts at 7:30pm.  The Big Lebowski @ Dolores starts at 8:00pm, and will be the final Dolores Park movie of the season.

See you at Dolo.

Solstace

One of my favorite things about owning a nice new dSLR camera is that I can put its life in peril by throwing it in a Camelbak and bringing it mountain biking. Well, after waking up at 8am Sunday morning, I got to experience what it must feel like to be a dog by hoping into a van for the first time in ages to go ride in someone else's back yard.  After fucking around Tamarancho, we descend our trail of choice.  Following a step, loose section, Kirt asks “you want us to go back up so you can get some footage of us coming down?”  “Well, there's a high probability of someone making a fool of themselves by having a stupid crash, so I'm all for it.”

The footage speaks for itself.

JUMPING ON THE MEMEWAGON

Lisa over at Everyday Photos hipped us to Ritual Roaster's blending of July 2010 internet and espresso.  I'm pretty sure that what this means is that double rainbow is 'fucking dead.'

In other Ritual related news, Berkeley's J-School is apparently back in session because they are posting a mess of original stories again.  For example, yesterday I learned that Four Barrel was born out of a falling out at Ritual (I'm sure everyone already knew that, feel free to make fun of me in the comments) and celebrated their 2 year anniversary with motherfucking pony rides:

Point Four Barrel.
