Ever Wonder What It'd Be Like To Fly Around San Francisco?

Videographer Robert McIntosh filmed this stunning aerial video of San Francisco on his last trip here, which somehow escaped our attention for 5 months. According to the the Vimeo comments, it looks like he shot the footage using only a quadrocopter and a GoPro. Aside from the unreal camera angles, the whole thing has a sort of dreamy, ephemeral feel to it; it’s the kind of thing you’d like to see when you close your eyes before falling asleep at night. The parts over the Legion of Honor and George Sterling Park are my favorite.

The video really speaks for itself so my commentary isn’t really needed, but it’s definitely worth five minutes, headphones, and fullscreen.

Meanwhile... At Ocean Beach...

According to the folks over at Ocean Beach Bulletin; “A woman drove a Lexus sedan down Stairwell 25, across the beach and into the sea at Ocean Beach this morning.” If she really did intend to drive it into the ocean, then that's some serious 'Free Willy meets PCP' shit right there.

UPDATE: SF Gate reports that first responders found her just chilling in the front seat of the car, which was already partially submerged.

There's a New Parklet for All Your Pizza-Eating, Music-Listening, Bum-Gawking Pleasure

It's hard to tell exactly how the refreshed Cafe Rev/Escape From NY Pizza parklet on 22nd will turn out, but it looks like they're swapping out the wood paneling for metal, putting lots of bar-style seating facing the road, giving us less bike racks, and potting various plant life at the ends for the resident crazypeople to use as a litter box.

Tree Appreciation Day

I was looking for a place to tinkle outside of Delirium last night when I came across this lovely thank you note scribbled on the sidewalk:

I can only assume the cigarette butts and vintage family planner are the Mission's offerings to the gods.

Springtime on Albion

For some strange reason, I took a walk down Albion this morning.  For the unfamiliar, Albion is a lovely little alley that packs an aroma very much like a Chinatown fish market on a warm summer day and the 16th Street corridor at large.  And between the three opened cans of tuna, two bras, and pile of poo-covered shirts scattered along the sidewalk (I count these things) is this mess of fall colors and a two-dimensional flower.

“Isss nice,” or whatever.

Sunday Streets Returns to the Mission

You already know how this works: from 11am to 4pm this Sunday, Valencia and 24th Streets are shut down to motorized traffic so you can get out there and ride your bike, rollerblade between packs of undomesticated children, walk amongst your community, and, most likely, aggressively campaign.  And just in case it was unclear, skateboarding is not a crime.
