Why I Ride

SF Lowrider documentary that you can watch on IMDB (don't ask me why they don't allow embedding so just click the image, it's only like 25 minutes long anyways nevermind found it on youtube). A bunch of footage from the 70's and 80's about what car culture in this city use to be like. Something this town has traded for bullshit like standing in lines for mediocre brunch and soggy cups of dirty water and liquor that taste like old trees. Car Culture in the bay is shitty in general, stuck hanging on the fringe. Do kids even get drivers licenses in this town before they are 30? Even if it's some dumb shit like wings on a front wheel drive, primered out everything, rattling plates, or even rainbow tint. It would be better than nothing. Whatever, it's not like I'm copping triple gold d's anytime soon either but I put in my time at lowrider shows. Yes I was in a lowrider bike club, spent years collecting issues of all kinds of mags, sported atzlan tshirts and all that. Even when I was driving around in a crx with a b18 I still had a soft spot in my heart for a dumped caprice with 4 15's in  the trunk.

Parts 2 & 3:

The César Chávez Holiday Parade Sure Was Nice

If you missed the César Chávez Parade and Festival this weekend, you missed out on a bunch of dancing, live music, street eats, mural painting, and mayoral candidates begging for support (for more coverage on all this, check out Junk Thief and Bluoz).  While all that was fun, the real highlight of the day was the lowrider segment of the parade, particularly this Lincoln's paintjob.  Ignoring the irony of this vehicle honoring a man who fought for farm worker's rights and living wages, I can't help but look at this and be reminded of “Selleck Waterfall Sandwich”, only this is “Busty Women, Waterfall, Jermaine Dupri Lyric.”

A beautiful intersection of internet and lowrider culture, really.

¡Muerto Rider!

Meli over at Bikes and The City recently took a snap of this badass San Francisco lowrider, which I guess spends more time in garages and galleries than on 24th (for the record, that last point isn't a criticism considering the last car I owned was a '94 (I think?) Jetta hatchback that looked like it was purchased used in Mogadishu and sat idle in my garage for 7 months because I was too apathetic to go to Autozone and buy a new battery).  In case you're like me and have never seen this car in person, check out the details of the roof and trunk.
