Street Artist Protests Unnecessary Museum Exhibits

An anonymous reader sent us this snap of the Banksy-parodying piece on Divis and Oak:

I was walking by yesterday and saw this stencil made by Eddie (streetartist? Im not from here so I dont really have my streetart culture up to date).. anyways, the bartender from the winebar this advertisement is attached to, Vinyl, on Divisadero St and Oak st told me it was in response to some street art exhibit at the MOCA.
I figured I'd pass along the news to you guys. I thought it was pretty cool.

Eddie Colla Addresses Concerns With His Sarah Palin Street Art

Last week, Eddie Colla went around town pasting up posters of Sarah Palin with the words “enrage them with fear until they feel justified in their violence” laid on top of her. Of course, everyone in SF thought this was the best thing ever, but Palin's flock of failures took issue with the fact that she never said those words and the poster implied that she had. So Eddie came up with a compromise:

To remedy this, and to show that I am open taking constructive criticism, I re-worked the original poster and used an actual quote from Palin. [Above] is the new version, which should put an end to any talk implying I haven’t been fair and balanced.

Crisis adverted.

Just to kick it off, I was wondering who sprayed the “We're Here, We're Queer” arrows across town. Eddie Colla takes credit:

I wonder if whiny NIMBY neighbors are “cool” with this kind of graffiti because it “celebrates diversity?” I mean, at the end of the day, it is still spraypaint on Market Street. Are they just hypocrites? I digress... Eddie emailed in to tell us that it was actually spray chalk, so it will disappear shortly. “Just long enough to be up for pride.”

Borrowed, Bought, Stolen. calls this Valencia and 18th piece “Take My Hand.” I don't think I could do any better than that. (link)

Finally, in drug-induced mural news, Flickr user micromero has the scoop on the latest in Balmy Alley:

I heard there was a new mural in Balmy Alley by famed, old school muralist Mario Torero and when we went for a walk this morning this is what we found. The blank garage door here had been crying out for a strong, beautiful mural. Well, here it is.
