Last night’s Ferguson protests in San Francisco got somewhat out of hand, with protesters smashing business windows and hurling bricks and bottles at cops. According to Beth Spotswood, cops donned riot gear “[not] to intimidate,” but rather protect themselves from hurled debris.
As the above video shows, they may have had a reason to be fearful. After a protester chucked a traffic barricade at a pile of cops arresting a person, one officer ran at the black bloc shot-putter, only to trip over the arrestee’s foot and fall on flat their face. Then again, SFPD officers can shoot someone in a park 14 times without serious repercussions.
Anyway, all the scene was missing was a slide whistle soundtrack.
UPDATE: A tipster sends us an extended video of the confrontation, including the moments leading up to the barricade throwing. In it, you can see a protester confronting an officer for unclear reasons, loudly shooting “fuck you” in his face. Then, after the officer bumps into the protester while walking past, another officer chokes the protester to the ground.

Kinda looks like the guy tripped her on purpose.
The officer didn’t “bump into” the protester, the protester kicked him from behind. After the barricade was thrown, the same protester swept the legs out of the female officer who tried to chase the person who had thrown it.

Hopefully you get whats coming to you so it’ll be a while before your financial “employer” can ship you on to the next location of whatever a protest is about. If you had half a brain it would be lonely.
this was sad for me to watch. first time i’ve ever sided with sfpd. how were the protesters being peaceful?appauling fucking behaviour. if they’re even sf residents then they should think about how they’re misrepresenting such a wonderful city. I’m sorry San Francisco.

Thankful that the majority of the protestors were peaceful and that the police showed restraint.
These protesters are disgusting. Not sure how the cops kept their cool. I’m all for police brutality with these scum.
I think the officers kept their cool well considering the hostility. They were only there to prevent damage to property it looks like. I’m totally in favor of the right to protest and I think there is a problem with police brutality in this country, but acting this way doesn’t help the situation.
