EPA and Around the Bay had a chance to explore Hunter's Point the other weekend:
Eventually, the buildings of Hunters Point Naval Shipyard will be bulldozed, put in a truck, and taken to a dump far away. When the artist’s studios were open, I snuck around a little and photographed the decay and debris. [link]
I highly doubt anyone is going to miss this place once it's gone (at least as it stands now), but it sure does look like a prime place to squander an afternoon exploring/get cancer.
For the interested, Telstar Logistics has also spent some time rummaging through the abandoned buildings of the shipyard.

Looks like a prime location for the expansion of Zeitgeist.

Man that Telstar has some excellent shots on Flickr. I wonder how he got the ones of Hunters Point buildings without being arrested.

Wabi-sabi goodness galore. A girlfriend from high school lived in the condos up the steep hill from the main entrance and I was always plotting to get in there, but the guy at the front gate is most uncooperative… Thanks for the heads up. As usual, Telstar blows me away by being more awesome that I could ever be. Just wanna know when the book’s coming out…
