bike messengers
TCB Courier made some calendars with pictures of themselves on them!

Aren't couriers just totally the hottest? Hottest hotties ever. So cute. And buff. Now instead of loitering around the statue or the courthouse hoping to catch the eye of a Vigorelli-riding hottie, you can bring them right home with you in the form of a wall calendar!

Initially I wanted to make fun of this as just obvious attention whoring but it's really a pretty clever way to promote a local business. Actually, the more I look at these pictures, the more I like them. At first I was nonplussed. Now I keep scrolling back up to look at that picture of Chas' back. Later today I'll probably stop by Mash and pick up one of these calendars. You can also shoot an email at tcbcalendar@gmail.com to order one.

Mission Bikes is hosting the premiere of "Career Courier" Sunday evening [6:30 doors / 7:00 film] at The Woman's Building on 18th and Lapidge. From Mission Bikes' blog:
Career Courier is a deeply personal portrait of 8 real people that have made a career out of bicycle delivery. It's about risk, freedom, sacrifice, and love.
We'll be screening this new film and presenting "The Making Of" a short presentation by director Kenton Hoppas. Kenton filmed this documentary in 5 cities from coast to coast and will share with us his behind-the-scenes perspective.
Not only do you get to check out the film and rub elbows with the director, but you can apparently put back all the free PBR you want before and during the premiere. Yessir, all that for 5 bucks if you buy tickets in advance at Mission Bikes' shop or $10 if you buy online or at the door.

Been wondering about who are some of the oldest messengers in the city? The drunkest? The new-ish blog dedicated to bikes, skating, and Japanese toys, Deal With It, offers up a short profile of a courier every week:
At 65 years old Roger is one of the oldest messengers on the road. Despite the fact that he dips and smokes dank all day, he is probably more fit than you or I. This old hippie rides 100 miles every Sunday and works full time at King...
Since San Franciscans like everything about bike messengers, the latest installment from California is a place is sure to be a hit.
One of my favorite shitty lines is from the movie The Sum of All Fears. My paraphrasing here, but basically a girl is describing her new love, Ben Affleck, to her friend:
Girl 1: On a scale of one to ten, how hot is he?
Girl 2: One to ten? A thirteen.
That quote perfectly sums up this clip. First, if I had to rate this clip, I would give it an enthusiastic 13 OUTTA 10. Second, the narrator is such a dork about his love of bike messengers, you can't help but think they are the Ben Affleck of San Francisco. Enjoy:
