Viral Video Attempts to Sell Voters on Prop 19, "Mark of the Beast" Not Sold

Someone made a design-heavy video in attempt to sell employees of the Googlebooks and readers of thedailywh.at/boing boing/laughing squid/other memetumblrs on the merits of voting for Prop 19.  Admittedly, I dig the video myself.

On the flip, SF street artist Eddie Colla (Correction: the artist was “Mark of the Beast,” Eddie only took the photo) isn't really sold on the prospect in living in a state full of McMarijuanas':

2010 Bicycle Film Festival

The Bike Film Fest kicks off in a couple of weeks (Nov 11-14), so you may want to consider buying tickets now for any of the shows that you're interested in.  Unlike last year, when you had to do terrible things like leave the Mission for pre-parties, concerts, and after-parties, they are keeping all the events in 94110.  Highlights include a Friday night screening on Empire at Mission Workshop and after-party at Bender's, some Wednesday night drunkfest at Knockout, and a weekend of screenings at Victoria Theatre on 16th and Capp.

The website doesn't say anything about any street party on Capp, but last year they had a rad-looking BMX comp, so hopefully that goes down again this year.

New Sketch Comedy From Wobbly H: "Roommates"

If you're into longer, darker sketch comedy, Wobbly H, fronted by local comedian Corey Loykasek, is a group worth looking into.  While some of their earlier sketches had some funny gags but not much follow through, their more recent videos do a great job exploring characters on the brink of insanity and individuals whose narcissism is based purely on mediocre accomplishments.  Yes, I know having to spend five to eight minutes on any one video is pure torture, but you actually sat through Jackass 3D the other day, so I think you can manage.

Sierra Frost Has Been Up to Some Good Stuff Lately

It's another crappy day in San Francisco so I'm digging myself into a pit of YouTube.  After watching 15 minutes of Andre Hyland videos, I somehow managed to transition over to local indie music.  Looks like The Downer Party's frontwoman Sierra Frost has started a new band called HATE FACTORY.  Catchy stuff, even if it is a song designed to go viral (via two cute girls singing about social media).

And while on the subject of The Downer Party, they were recently on Backseat Beat, which went on to call fixies “stupid” and describe the band's appearance as “a walking hangover.”  Zing!

greenbelt collective on Valencia

Eddie Codel ran into greenbelt collective giving a performance on Valencia the other night, noting that “they should've gotten a slot at Treasure Island Music Festival.”  I feel like TI might have been a little too big for these guys, but Amnesia or Viracocha seems like the perfect venue for these guys (book 'em!).

Anyway, the audio on this (short) vid isn't the best, so I'd recommend checking out their myspace.  Skip down to “to henry” to get to the good stuff.
