Arby's Employee Lashes Out at Kreayshawn

I don't know if everyone has been following the comments section lately, but there's some quality discourse going on in the “Gucci Gucci” post. From reader “arbys worker”:

i really like this song except the arbys worker comment. im not offended that it was said, but if ur gonna try to insult sum1 get ur facts straight…… arbys small medium large, mc donalds supersizes their order though not used anymore. clearly rappers arent the smartest spork in trash recepticle (taco bell reference).

now i wish i had a spork…..

Thanks for straightening that out!

Diary Turns Two This Saturday with Hella 90s Screamo, Cheap Beer, & Free Shit

Saturday is shaping up to be pretty fucking nuts: Phono del Sol kicks off at noon, Alkaline Trio plays at Slim's, and if you haven't had your fill of music for the day, why not crowd-surf to The Casket Lottery while downing two dollar beers in the Mission's “hub of consequences”?

Here're the relevant details from Kris and Patric:

Diary is turning two years old, HOLY SHIT. We're super pumped to be celebrating with you guys! Who knew it would have lasted this long and we'd still be seeing crowd-surfing awesomeness?! To celebrate, we're loading up on gifts to give away. But there's a catch!

Dig through your archives and find the funniest old-school photo of you looking your punk or emo best and bring it in for us. We'll post it up on a wall of fame for the night and judge winners to receive prizes (records, DVDs, fun stuff).

If you're like me and left all your old photos in state which you were raised, you're shit outta luck, but you can always bring some old, decaying tshirt that hasn't fit you in 6 years and nail it up to the wall.

El Rio's Big Time Freedom Fest

Still don't have plans for the Fourth?  The Bay Bridged's got you covered:

This July 4th, come spend your holiday with us on the El Rio patio for the Sixth Annual El Rio Big Time Freedom Fest (3pm, $8, 21+). Six great bands are on deck to help celebrate the things that make this country great: indie music and afternoon beers. Oh, and freedom. Definitely freedom.

The weather looks solid, the show's outside, and you can head straight up Bernal after the music stops to check out the renegade firework show.  But should you need more convincing, TBB has a preview of what you can expect to hear.

Social Media and Puppets, Together at Last

You nerds like social networking and singing puppets, right?  Then swing by ATA Friday evening before you excruciate your liver:

“Facebuuk the Puppet Musical” is a video project involving four whimsical characters who are obsessed with social networking. Their songs weave tails of despair, joy and triumph as they interact with each other in the mythical land of Facebuuk.

Join Jenny Meow (the FB Status Junkie), Conrad Covic, (FB Causes Guy), Melody Manson (FB Stalker) and Freddy Smith (the 56K Kid) as they tell their stories through song. The puppets will be available for Q & A after the screening.

(Thanks Annie!)

Fernet Finally Has Its Own Rap

For all of you worried that Four Loko is getting all the 2010's rap love, some local kids just put out an anthem bluntly titled “I Drink Fernet.”  And much like Fernet's mediocre taste that leaves you not wanting more, the song puts you in a terrible state of delirium that leaves you in disbelieve as to how the legacy of St. Ides has been reduced to a white man with a goatee informing us that he “run through bottles like a run through models.”

Pirate Cat Radio Is Now Mutiny Radio!

Independent radio in the Bay Area really has had a tough run of things this year. Between the whole KUSF fiasco  a few months ago, and the temporary closing of Pirate Cat Radio back in February, it seemed like there may be nowhere left to turn where you don’t have to hear Cee-Lo’s “Fuck You” a hundred times a day.

Today marks Pirate Cat’s official re-launch as Mutiny Radio.  More information from Radio Survivor:

Tomorrow will mark yet another rebirth for the group, as they re-launch under a new, yet-to-be-revealed name at 8am. When I caught up with the station’s Minister of Programming Aaron Lazenby last Friday, he explained that they’ve felt like they’ve been in a “weird, interim period” since February in which they’ve been working to keep the station going. He said that they’ve also been developing a new identity for the station and it seemed like June 1st was the right time to start things over with both a new station name and a new coat of paint throughout the studio. Lazenby said that they have been “tired of living in the wake of that drama” and added “we’re ready to be something else.”

I also spoke with a long time Pirate Cat DJ (who wished to remain anonymous) who told me that Daniel “Monkey” Roberts is no longer affiliated with the station in any capacity, and part of the impetus behind the name change was to disassociate the station from Monkey’s name and start fresh. He also mentioned – Lazenby seems to agree in the Radio Survivor interview – that the vibe around the station seems to be one of excitement and optimism.

The café on 21st and Florida got a fresh coat of paint last night, and they’ll remain open slinging those weirdly delicious Maple Bacon Latté’s. You can listen online* at Mutiny Radio’s website and fan them on Facebook here. The details on this change still seem to be emerging, so if you have any more info please drop us a line in the comments. I for one think this is pretty darn exciting and can't wait to see what the former Pirate Cat team can accomplish without Monkey.

Kelly Malone v. The C Word

Hey, remember a few weeks ago when we mentioned that the lovely Kelly of Indiemart and Workshop had been diagnosed with cancer? Now is your chance to help her kick cancer for good and see five great SF bands for only $15. More details from the Independent:

This past April, Kelly was diagnosed with an advanced stage of cancer that had spread to non-localized areas as a result of previous battles. Originally dropped from her previous insurance because of the cancer diagnosis, Kelly has had no chance of obtaining new health insurance due to this pre-existing condition. Through this all, Kelly keeps a smile on her face and continues to give back to San Francisco, often devoting much of her own income and sweat to continue businesses that enrich the city. As a successful small business owner, designer, artist, event planner, part of the Treasure Island Music Festival & Noise Pop, Kelly has been able to keep up with medical bills through the ongoing treatments, surgeries, and chemotherapy schedules. But this latest diagnosis requires a treatment path that will exceed her financial abilities, and most likely require her to take a hiatus from her businesses. So she is now asking San Francisco for a helping hand.

All the info you need is on the flier up there, and you can buy tickets in advance right here. And if you can't make it to the show next Tuesday, you can still donate through Kelly's paypal too!
