Art - The Streets

Saibong, although she doesn't mention a reward, I am sure Julia will kick down a high-five

For a second, I thought about blocking out her number, but then how will Saibong call her? Also, she posted this on the corner of 14th and Valencia, and I think more people walk by there then read anything I post. Part of me is worried that this is just a cruel prank by Saibong, who, not being content with spending Julia’s money and running up her credit cards,  left a fake number in order to get Julia’s hopes up, only to crush them back down. Restore my faith in humanity, Saibong.

Dream Day 10

It’s going down over at the Parish in Oakland Friday. If you don’t know about Dream you really need to step up your graf knowledge. TDK blew my mind the first time I saw their pieces in shitty graf mags 15 years ago. They got djs and some people preforming the rap music. All proceeds will benefit the Dream Legacy Fund and the Dream book fund.

Art exhibition by TDK crew + more

Music by DJs: Apollo, ShortKut, Sake One, Fuze, Myke One, Platurn, Namane, and Willie Maze.

Performances by Equipto, F.A.M.E. and The Bangers.

The Bay Area’s best DJs and Artists have assembled to pay tribute to life and legacy of Oakland’s beloved Graffiti King and Bay Area legend, Mike “DREAM” Francisco. Recognized worldwide as a style master, Dream’s graffiti established the visual aesthetic of Oakland’s Hip Hop culture, and put The Town on the map in what is now the fastest growing art movement in human history.

This event marks ten years since Dream was tragically murdered, and all proceeds from the event will benefit Akil Francisco, Dream’s only son, now 10 years old. The TDK crew is also proud to announce the forthcoming book on Dream’s art and life: “The Title of My Book Reads: Advanced Vandalism.”

All proceeds benefit the Dream Book Fund and the Dream Legacy Fund for his son Akil, 10, who recently lost his mother to breast cancer.

If you are unable to attend and want to support, please make checks out to The Dream Trust Fund, or Akil Francisco.

I ain't got no money in the bank...

Um, is that how that goes? I don’t get these new fangled rappers*. That’s because I’m about a thousand-years-old and HAVE (a modicum of) TASTE. I’d get behind a, “Oakland. Smokin’”  shirt tho. Can someone please get on that for me?? Luniz + Laura 4eva + eva + a day.

Picture yanked from adorable SnackFace. If you want to skeeve over hot young thangs doing more with their lives than you ever will, head there. It’s thoroughly depressing YAY THE FUTURE!!!

*Except you, Lil’ Wayne! Call me, boo!

The Valencia Wall Refreshed, Peace Out Sharks

Brad over at City Snaps recently noticed that the art wall at 1240 Valencia morphed from an orgy of sharks to a family scrapbook.  Normally I’d be all “fuck that” because, as a vegetarian, I have to live vicariously through animals that eat raw seal meat and inspired Jaws, but this particular collage features no less than two bicycles and a guy doing a five-star frog splash into a wrestling ring.  Approve.

Deal of the Week: Beautiful Van (read: Child Molester Hovel on Wheels), Runs Smoothly (read: Needs Battery).

Mysteriously only $500. Megan Allison came through with this brilliant find at the Inner Sunset Community Billboard. And basically wrote this post. So really, she should just have her own fucking Uptown Almanac account but I ain’t the Boss Lady so WHATEVS. Also, I’m pretty sure I know the person who is selling this. Ugh. I need some new friends and fast. What are you doing this weekend? Aaaaand THAT’S my first problem.
