Broke-Ass Stuart's Rock-n-Roll Carnival Goes Down TOMORROW

Broke-Ass Stuart and some record company have a big Rock-n-Roll Carnival happening at Public Works tomorrow.  The poster has a lot of words on it, so Stuart simplifies everything for us:

There's 4 bands, DJs, a magician, comedians, burlesque, face painting, fortune telling and Skee-Ball. Dope right? It's gonna be a lot of fun. Plus an hour of sponsored booze by Fireball Whisky. All this for only $7!

Hot damn.  Get your presale tickets here, because it's $10 at the door.

Tonight at Public Works: Chromatic Exhibition

This show opening at Public Works tonight promises to be pretty cool. From the website:

Do YOU dream in COLOR?

Are you blue? Green with envy? Or better yet, is your love like a red, red rose? Why is it that color inspires and evokes such powerful emotion in the human mind? Come and see for yourself at Roll-Up Gallery’s Chromatic Exhibition. A bold, richly hued group show featuring the kaleidoscopic works of six exceedingly talented local artists.

The show opening is tonight at 161 Erie from 6-9 pm. Check it out!

Broke-Ass Stuart Has a New TV Show and Celebrating By Getting Everybody Drunk

It's been a long journey for our pal Broke-Ass Stuart.  Seven years ago, he started out making zines about being a broke-ass in SF.  From there he graduated to publishing two books (with a third coming out next month), started a popular blog about living cheap in SF and NYC, and continued being an all around rad dude.  All that hard work has paid off and now he's got a new show “Young Broke & Beautiful” debuting on IFC Friday evening at 11 and is celebrating tonight by getting everyone drunk at Public Works.

The party kicks off at 7pm with an hour's worth of free Sam Adams (get the Summer Ale!), a sneak peak of the show, and live performances by Ashkon, Richie Cunning, The Hard French DJs, and DJ Bad DJ.  On top of all that, there's going to be DIY vendors from the Indie Mart on the scene and food trucks to make sure you don't get too sloppy.

You gotta RSVP at rsvp@brokeassstuart.com to get in, so make sure you do that before you bail out of work today.  And if you can't make it, be sure to watch the premiere Friday night or check out the first episode over on Hulu.

Public Works Knows How to Throw a Party

If you can get past this crappy photo, you can see there was a lot of action going on at the Sailor Jerry-sponsored Black Lips and Thee Oh Sees show on Saturday.  Now, I hadn't been to a good punk show in quite some time, but this one was exactly how I remembered it: about 150 empty cans around the block from the venue.  A crappy stage only a foot and a half off the ground.  No security barrier and only a few security guards, whose heads towered over the band, to keep moshing fans from crashing into the band.  Fans charging the stage as security was distracted by pulling fans off the rafters.  A girl crying in the bathroom with two wasted friends trying to comfort her.  A fist fight that had to be broken up by a five-foot tall skinny girl from Michigan.  And, of course, no night would be complete without two stumbling girls covered in tattoos and tattered clothing debating whether or not they were too drunk to ride their bikes home.

Public Works, you may serve shitty, watered-down drinks at club prices, but you know how to throw a goddamn party.
