Crews tore down the plywood yesterday to unveil this bumpy, white-walled pizza spot/70s coke den at the corner of 18th and Valencia. One of the construction workers said it was to be on outpost of Farina (its main location just up the street) and, by the looks of it, they are intending to sell a lot of wine.
(Also, is this actually news? Come to think of it, I've never even been to the old Farina. I don't think anyone's ever been. Are they still in business?)

Much like RadioShack, the continued existence of Farina simply cannot be explained. Terrible food, high prices, and surrounded by much better restaurants (Delfina, etc.) The only thing it has going for it is there's never a wait.
Farina is actually pretty good and radio shack isn't that bad either but I know what you mean. Noisebridge people probably use radio shack all the time.
I agree with you on Farina, but Radio Shack actually fills a need for those of us who play electric instruments (and similar hobbies) and need hard-to-find y-cables and the like. Esp handy when connecting older audio/video equipment to new. Places like Guitar Center and Best Buy are very limited in this regard and you can't always wait a week for shipping.

Starting to look a lot like Union St more & more. So sad.
What's the deal with that other new place just up the street, Craftsman & something...?
Years ago Farina was good. Now its a rip off with a bad attitude.
the folks who opened farina alienated the neighbors before they even finished construction and i think as a result they never really flourished. i have only ever been in to pee in their intensely ostentatious bathroom. if this is true, i'm really surprised they are so tastelessly mimicking delfina that they're also opening a pizza annex. that said, the tile in the new place looks really good???
