This morning I woke up with Lana Del Ray stuck in my head and was all kinds of pissed off about having to start my day with that whiney drivel running through my mind. That is, until I hopped online and discovered Toast's fresh new video for their song 'Fog City.'
Like this video, their music is gritty and down to earth, but with a sleek finish. I mean, who else raps about clogging their toilet with tampons, and can squeeze in a smegma reference and the phrase “okie dokie” in the same breath? These girls are crazy talented and obviously living life at expert level as evidenced by their vase of bacon grease. Peep them on Facebook and Youtube too.

That is the point. This “music” should not be re-tweeted, dug, posted, praised or raved about. Rather it should be forgotten before its even finished and moved on to the next like you suggested about our comments. When there are no rapping skills, flow that is out of pocket and is, as another comment so eloquently pointed out, comparable to the educational raps of the 90’s, you HAVE to comment and disagree. Some of us care about music- some of us don’t want this to be propped up as something representative of the bay- some of us think its is mind-boggling how this can even be thought of as decent, passable as music and that someone actually took the time to review this at all. THAT is why we say something. We comment because we care. It’s not hating when it’s the truth.
as an musician myself, I’m a big fan of criticism. You can choose to accept or ignore it, but it is a valid part of the creative process. I’d rather have some honest feedback than be a part of politely advocated mediocrity.
