It's only been a week since San Francisco became host to the world's first seapunk mural. Now the blue hairs are already turning up in the Mission's otherwise venerable fashion blogs. And while this girl isn't sewing her legs together into a flipper shape or tattooing gills on her face, it looks like the Mission has another bona fide subculture to pretend to understand.
(Also worth noting, Kreayshawn just got behind this whole seapunk thing. Should this go any further, we'll be watching spunkers scuttle around Dolores Park like crabs by summer.)

STOP! It's only real if you acknowledge its existence. there is no such thing as sea punk! right?...... no really, right?
I read an article the other day that suggested that hipsterism was a subculture created purely for mockery and ridicule (what came first: the hipster or hipster joke?). Considering the only people talking about #seapunk right now are internet funnymen and Kreayshawn, I think it's safe to say the same thing about spunkers.
(That said, unlike hipsters, there are people who self-identify as spunkers. There's even an entire 'internet magazine' dedicated to the genre. Also, this girl.)
As someone who makes decidedly "meh" jokes on the internet, I fully endorse #seapunk and our new dolphin overlords. There's literally AN OCEAN of opportunity for terrible puns and har hars.
"Hipsterism" has been around since the 1940s, as a reference to jazz heads. You probably already know that though.
Right, and it was a term applied to a subculture that was largely "forgotten" until the late-90s, when it was then slapped on a completely different subculture that defined by its appropriation of dated trends--including, but not exclusive to, the beats and jazz heads.
Also, am I really defending myself to someone pretending that the modern incarnation of the hipster has been around since the 40s?
She looks like a lot of (dol) fun!
I wonder if she smells like the ocean...like, down there...
What is what you call, "Sea Punk"? It's a white person thing, right?

Shit! My hair has been blue since 2005. Damn you Seapunk!!!!!!
The photo tells me one thing; it's cheaper to clothe her than to feed her.
Before you know it, seapunk is gonna be a cultural juggernaut on par with steampunk. And by that I mean basically zero impact beyond the internet nerds and anime watchers.
This seems familiar...
I don't know from seapunk, but she's a cutie.
LOLOLOL this is my girlfriend (seriously, though) . And I can assure that her hair has nothing to do with Seapunk, as she basically just likes to dye her hair a different color every month. Weird, far-fetched coincidence??.....
hey look its me! and i've never heard of seapunk until right now.
