In San Francisco, Even Death Metal Concerts Are Exactly Like Burning Man

I made my way to the epic Blood, Bath & Beyond Day at Potrero del Sol on Saturday.  For those of you unfamiliar with Potrero del Sol, it's the park at the corner of Potrero and 25th in which you can drink beer and listen to metal just a few yards away from a playground and a child's birthday party without any neighbors calling the cops.  Coexistence in its purest form.

Well this particular weekend, the park was not only host to bands such as “Zombie Death Stench” and “Feral Depravity,” but also some Burning Man pregame picnic.  As the video shows, the two groups got along just fine…

Bonus shot at 1:50 of children rolling down the hill while some dude from Modesto screamed about society falling apart or some shit.

What the author missed was that the ‘burning man’ contingent were in fact having a permitted baby shower. They were rather surprised to find a death metal show going on right next to them, but since half of them would have been quite happy at the death metal show they carried on regardless.

Permitted or unpermitted, it’s the fact everyone can get along that matters.

Several members of the Man Crew showed up to the shower, since the parents-to-be are both on the crew. Our “Burning Man pregame picnic” was in fact a baby shower that we booked a couple months ago. Little did we know when we made the reservations that we would receive gift certificates to “Blood, Bath, and Beyond”.

We couldn’t have picked a more inappropriate music for the shower, but we mostly laughed it off. Our baby is gonna come out screaming and will look very stylish in her Zombie Death Stench t-shirt that one of our guests bought as a gift.

I love that when I walked into the park and started setting up for the said {deathmetal} baby shower, someone deigned to infer that we could not handle the live music. I turned around and said to him, ‘you think we cannot handle a little death metal for our baby coming up? We did so and more. That is our girl Cat hooping with the best of the head bangers! fun! it was the wind that threw us, for reals!

C’mon, don’t be mean. Those death metal types really want to annoy somebody’s parents! Can’t you let them have this one thing on their special day?

I support more baby showers / death metal hoop-core shows. I think I see a new niche market to be carved out in the already saturated death / grind / black metal scenes.

I would just like to mention that I am wearing 4 inch hot pink high heels while hooping.

That’s all.

Thanks,

Cat
