The Bikes of San Francisco

Reader AB sends us this poster, which I guess is attempting to depict what types of bikes represent various neighborhoods in SF.  Sure, the Tenderloin illustration is one humdinger of a joke, but the rest of the neighborhoods are just too literal.  I mean, I realize absolutely everyone in the Mission rides a fixie, but I have never once seen a unicycle in the Haight.  Is it trying to say the Haight is full of red-nosed clowns?  Perhaps the Haight should have been a tall bike, representing that it is a complete bastardization of what it once was.  And shouldn't Civic Center be the town bicycle?

Anyway, if you dig this poster, a cool 30 smacks and it's yours.

Why does the Embarcadero get the mixte?? Thats the only part of this that makes no sense to me.

That looks more like a BMX bike than a Mixte. The two are nothing like eachother. I can’t comment why either would or would not be appropriate for that part of SF.

Yea I realized that after I posted - the wheels are waaaay too small.

In front of the Ferry Building is a usual spot for shooting BMX/fixie vids.

Well, the Tenderloin one could honestly be anywhere since bikes are jacked all over in this thefthole of a city.

We’re mainly full of fixies up here in the Loin as well, but obviously no one wants to admit to that…

The Embarcadero one is a BMX bike, often seen between the Ferry Building and Justin Herman Plaza.

The bike in the Sunset should be a car.

I don’t even OWN a fixie!

Whoa whoa whoa, slow down there. There are plenty of us in the Mission that rightfully regard fixies as a ridiculous affectation that makes about as much sense as driving around in a Model T.
