The Uptown Reimagined With Dogs, Dinosaurs and Unicorns

The Uptown, the dimly-lit bar full of beer-soaked couches, vandalized wooden tables, a machine full of 80s arcade games, and jukebox that has both Crystal Castles and Metallica on it, is already a rad spot.  Hell, I cannot think of a single thing I'd change about it.  That said, if they changed their name to Downtown, started serving root beer floats and began admitting dogs from the 70's, I don't think I'd complain.

I work right across from The Uptown. Now I think I’ll have to check it out.

The Uptown IS awesome, the best bar in the Mission and in my top five for all of SF. Some of the happiest memories of the past four years of my life involve drunkenly screaming along to “Heart of Gold,” slamming Four Lokos in the girls’ room and being pushed home from the bar in a shopping cart. But there are things I’d change about it, and that godawful mural of pinball machines on the back wall is one of them.

Looks about right

The unicorn and the zebra playing the rainbows-from-snugglie-ponies game have to go.

We’re pretty open here in San Francisco, but I’m drawing the line.

The Lionel Ritchie tiger is a nice touch.

No no no… The pinball game appears to say “Wolfasus” (thumbs up) and that zebra has wings! Unicorn playing pool looks about to pull off a bank shot! All keepers…
