Person Beat, Robbed on Thursday at 2:30pm Near Dolores Park

This account of being attacked was passed onto the Mission Dolores Safe Clean Green email list (the author was not attributed).  While the person's advice is 'fucking lame', it's still pretty alarming that people are being beat unconscious that close to Valencia.  Stay safe, everyone:

I was attacked yesterday while walking home on 19th street between Valencia and Guerrero around 2:30 pm, about half a block from my home. I was apparently followed, snuck up on from behind and beaten in the side of the head, then dragged down the sidewalk by my legs. I have a concussion and some bruises and scrapes, but no permanent damage (of the physical kind, at least). The attacker then went through my pockets and took my iphone before running away. It was broad daylight and there were people everywhere. I had not taken any alleys or side streets on my way home from the 16th street BART station. The suspect was apprehended (rare for this kind of crime) but I can't really discuss too many other details because the case is evolving.
I just wanted to pass on some information that the detective shared with me about street crime in the Mission as of late:

There has been a rash of street robberies in the past month or so, usually involving one or two men, some with handguns. They usually target people walking alone and rob them of their smart phones and wallets. Usually they strike late at night to early in the morning, especially on weekends when people often walk home inebriated and thus easier prey. Women walking alone are particularly vulnerable.

My case was unusual in that it happened in the middle of a workday with people around, but the police told me the criminals are getting more brazen.

Please, be mindful of your surroundings, even if you live in the “safest” part of the Mission, even during the day. Don't walk with your smartphone in your hand. Have your bags around your body. Don't walk home alone from the bars. If someone accosts you, scream like hell, but don't fight them- give them what they want and call the police. If you witness something happening to someone else, make yourself available to the police as a witness.

Did you completely miss the apparent 12 man assault on one guy that was all over the news yesterday in the park or something cause that seems more siren worthy to me

I saw it but all the other SF blogs covered it to death. Someone gets shot or stabbed every summer in the park in the middle of the night. Someone getting beat over the head and dragged down 19th at 2:30 in the afternoon does not.

last night a dude was stabbed and robbed by like 12 dudes in the park around 1am according to Kron4

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A San Francisco man is hospitalized after he was robbed and stabbed by a group of people in a city park.

Police say the 40-year-old man, who has not been named, suffered life-threatening wounds after the attack in Dolores Park around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

A police spokesman says the man was stabbed multiple times. As many as a dozen people took part in the attack. Television video showed a trail of blood from the victim on a sidewalk in the park.

After detaining seven people, police say three suspects are being held on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery.

Police did not release their names or any other details, but said they were 20, 18 and 17 years old.

Police are looking for additional suspects.

Good point about something bad happening each summer at night at Dolores but both crimes are news: robbed and dragged on the street at 2:30 in the day at 19th and Linda , and the stabbing by a mob of 12. Each story has a different dimension, and scary aspects.

I saw this robbery suspect get caught right in front of the Lexington. Seemed like 5 cop cars came out of nowhere and all had there guns drawn. Crazy… Guy was middle aged african american, slightly heavy set.

thanks for keeping it real, la mission. now i dont have to make apologies for the crappy new apartment buildings and can maintain my rep as a thug. get crunk!

Was is the 4G? Folks need to hooptie up their fancy phones to avoid mugification.

We saw some poor girl get hers knicked coming off 24th BART late one thursday evening. Dude was a mid-20s African American, short hair with a blue and red striped shirt, vans and cut-offs. I confronted dude, and grabbed his shirt as he was running up the escalator only to have it rip. I was not enough invested in sister’s drama to run after him and… (?) There was a mob of mission people, but did anyone else do, or say anything? Nope. 5-0 saving the day? Not very likely.

How to inspire a mob to beat down a dude who stole a girl’s fancy phone? Vigilant justice on these snatch and grab foolios - Not with these laisse faire mission motherfuckers.

If she is careless with expensive toys, is the robbery justified? This should be obvious as shit, but if you are sporting a fancy phone - watch your back and keep that thing in your pocket. Because, the earning potential for hot 4G iphones is too high and your dear community members will not have your back.

Tra la la.

I believe the GPS features of the iPhone G4 phone enable it to be tracked if stolen, that is unless the thief is smart enough to jailbreak it and disable its self locating ability.

Hey Kev, you think there are any other neighborhoods in the City without such ridiculous violence? Or, any other neighborhoods without such violence AND great al pastor? Hard to find. Thoughts?

Good to see you still in business.
