Can't Catch A Break

Why Is Getting Home From a Riot Such a Hassle?

Sometimes, after a long night of rioting, you just want to ride home in comfort and style. And is that really too much to ask? I mean, on-demand ride services have already thoroughly disrupted the established norms of the transportation industry— why not rioting as well?

But you have to hand it to SFPD, because they clearly don’t give a shit, no matter how pleadingly the person featured in this video exasperatedly exclaims “my Uber is down there!”

Requesting an Uber to the epicenter of a riot. Great job lady.

Of course they don’t give a shit, and it would be entirely counter-productive to do so.  Techniques intended to disperse a violently rioting *collective* like this don’t exactly work when you start issuing exceptions to *individuals*, at least in all but the most demonstrably urgent circumstances, and I think we can agree that your Uber being ‘down there’ is not among them.

People need to seriously begin practicing some level-headed rationality when evaluating these incidents instead of filtering everything they see through the lense of their existing hostilities toward the police force.

And really, of all the wanton acts of last night’s destruction, of all the verifiable incidents involving violence against police and against each other, this shocking footage of police ignoring an otherwise unscathed, well-to-do woman pleading for her access to her rideshare is the kind of awareness you wish to raise?

Yes, Rami. That is exactly the kind of awareness this post is intended to raise.

You must be great fun at parties. It’s a joke asshole.

I’m pretty sure she was joking?

The ironic nature of the post was lost upon you.

Yeah, Uptown Almanac makes it especially difficult to distinguish between satirical irony and fashionably petty grievances, so much so that I can probably just swap out a few proper nouns on my comments and this post have it be entirely relevant to the next one that actually *does* accuse the police of heinously inconvenincing our privileged lives.

All Ramis Are Bastards

You have just described hipsters generally.
