It's Almost Baseball Season in San Francisco...

With just 40 days left until opening day at AT&T Park*, eager fans are getting a jump on things and lining up outside the stadium for tickets.  Someone's even gone and painted orange highlights on the Lefty O'Doul Bridge.

Oh yes, it's almost baseball season in San Francisco.

*I totally didn't have to Google that. Trust.

Epic Fire Burning at 11th and Folsom

Our pal Steph is on the ground and is telling us there's a bunch of car drivers—who are clearly important people with important places to be—driving through the area, preventing the firefighters from doing their job. Classy.

[Thanks Steph!]

Eskimos to Make Slumgullion out of 47 Van Ness

I can't comment too much on the musical aspects of this show (other than I once watched Battlehooch put on a set on the corner of 16th and Valencia and it was quite enjoyable), and you have to be at least six-years-old to attend (sorry, Mission Mission commenters), but this depiction of a flock of Eskimos tearing apart a 47 Van Ness is probably the most important work of art you've seen so far this year.

And should you be interested in the show itself, The Bay Bridged has a short preview of what one can expect and a line on how to score some free tickets.

SOMA's Bold New Parking Meter Designs

I can't help but see these meters and be reminded of Aaron Perry-Zucker and his self-started bright bench project in McLaren Park: sure, it might not be legal, but it looks a helluva lot better than the bland gray and silver finish they originally saw.  Plus, they match those vandalized light poles oh-so-nicely.

(Also, be sure to see what organic matter lives at the foot of these)

Somewhere in SF, There's a Bartender Who's Never Heard of PBR

I made my way to Mercury Lounge for that photo show the other night and bore witness to a strange and jarring conversation between our pal John and the Mission-oblivious bartender:

OPJ: “Can I get P-B-R?”

MOB: “Sure.”

[MOB turns, stares at a bucket of Corona for a moment or two, and turns back towards OPJ]

MOB: “I'm sorry, I don't know that drink.”

OPJ: “P-B-R? It stands for Pabst Blue Ribbon.”

MOB: “Oh, right.”

[MOB grabs a can and cracks it open]

MOB: “That'll be four bucks.”

Bike-Filled Photo Show You Most Definitely Should Check Out Tonight

The fine folks over at Full Frame Collective have been crushing it since they launched their cycling-centric photo collective 8 weeks ago, and now they're taking their best-of and slapping it up on the walls of Mercury Lounge.  Presumably you should get there on the earlier side of thing, else you might find yourself in a desperate search for nearby bike parking.

Brian Barneclo's 600ft-Long "Systems" Mural Comes to Life

After years of setbacks and a long campaign to raise the requite $70k to start painting, Brian Barneclo has finally begun painting the 600x40 foot mural along the Caltrain tracks at 7th and Townsend.  The idea is this will be the first landmark Caltrains passengers will see when arriving in San Francisco and cause us to question the systems around us.  From the project's website:

Systems Mural Project will explore the concept of interconnectivity via a 600 foot panoramic mural painted by San Francisco artist Brian Barneclo.  Systems are found in nature (the water cycle) and systems are created by man (the government).  As we move into the 21st century, what have we learned about sustainable systems-what works and what doesn't.  Should we revisit ancient technologies?  Is the Industrial Age over?  It's through this conversation that we gain an understanding of, perhaps the most complicated systems of all, our systems of belief.

All that sounds nice and all, but it's the awe of seeing something so massive that makes it the marvel that it is.

Unfortuantely it was impossible to shoot the entire mural from the street, but you can see check out some panos of the design here.
