Descend Out of Hipster Heaven and See More Rad HDR Photos of SF

Jouko van der Kruijssen, the man responsible for the rad shot of a biker descending down Hawk Hill AND the shot above, has some photos on display now:

More of my rad HDRs as well as some arguably cheesy ones and regular proper photographs are up in the Blue Danube on 4th Ave and Clement street. (That's the Inner Richmond, so it does require some of you to briefly descend out of Hipster Heaven). They'll be up there til the end of the year. I will not go as far as saying my framed pics make a great Christmas present, but please tell your rich friends that they do.

The Blue Danube is not Four Barrel, Blue Bottle or Ritual Roasters, so it'll probably give you cancer and murder your girlfriend.  However, if you're willing to risk it, you'll be rewarded with fine photography and an early opportunity for holiday shopping.

ATTN BIKE NERDS/TOURISTS: Hawk Hill Has Reopened

Much to the disappointment of area cyclists and appalling looking people in rental cars, the Marin Headlands shut down this spring for construction for repairs.  Lucky for us, construction has finally wrapped up and we can once again ride bikes without being forced to ride through the Sausalito moneyfest and take rad HDR photos.

Apparently Sunsets Are Also Nice in Oakland

These last few weeks have definitely felt more like Montana summers than late fall in San Francisco.  Warm days, nights that don't make you want to curl up in the fetal position and die, and epic sunsets.

While my nightly dose of Sutro protruding into the orange sky is nice, it's refreshing to see some shots of the Port of Oakland set to the familiar orange backdrop.

200 Yards at Dirty Thieves

I Know Alyssa Jones, a blog that features more vulgarity and references to genitalia than Serg or I could ever muster, luckily was able to cover the opening of 200 Yards:

Since some people were confused about why the show was called ’200 Yards’, let me ‘splain it to ya.

Lightbox [the show promoter] chooses a center point, somewhere in the city, and you are only allowed to shoot within 200 yards of that center point. The center point for this show was the bar Dirty Thieves. There, you’ve been schooled. I wish I had taken more photos of the show, but it was dark as fuck, because bars are dark…in case you didn’t know

The show goes on until Dec 10th, so you have plenty of time to get stupid drunk off of PBR tallcans and top-shelf bourbon while looking at pictures that aren't being hotlinked from flickr.

A Decaying Hunters Point Naval Shipyard

EPA and Around the Bay had a chance to explore Hunter's Point the other weekend:

Eventually, the buildings of Hunters Point Naval Shipyard will be bulldozed, put in a truck, and taken to a dump far away. When the artist’s studios were open, I snuck around a little and photographed the decay and debris. [link]

I highly doubt anyone is going to miss this place once it's gone (at least as it stands now), but it sure does look like a prime place to squander an afternoon exploring/get cancer.

For the interested, Telstar Logistics has also spent some time rummaging through the abandoned buildings of the shipyard.

SF Bike Expo: AT's Showdown

Saturday's SF Bike Expo was a decidedly gnarly time.  While the fleet of antique/art/project bikes, vendors, cross racing, and action on the pump track certainly entertained, AT's Showdown was the real highlight.  Unfortunately, I have no idea how to operate a camera or iMovie, so the (short) video lacking any real editing or sick Dropkick Murphy's track/some other song proving I have zero taste in music will have to satiate your appetite.  Don't worry, it includes a fantastic number of flips, kicks, spins and big air:

Also, Neil C. had an off-camera flash and, therefore, got some rad snaps of the event:

(Don't forget: the SF Bicycle Film Festival kicks off Wednesday.)
