Ever Wonder What'd It Be Like to Fly Over Dolores Park on the Busiest Weekend of the Year?

Our southern neighbor Todd of “the Bernalwood Air Force” took an aerial Cessna tour of some of our favorite San Francisco landmarks early yesterday afternoon, noting “we got so close, you can almost see the 40s.”

Not only that, but he got what could be the first aerial pic of the new playground:

And this bonus snap of Sutro:

Do yourself a favor and blow these up real big and then flip through all the rest. [Thanks Todd!]

Zeitgeist Joins Twitter, Tweets Photos INSIDE Bar

The final taboo of Mission drinking has been broken:

It remains to be seen whether this a classic case of “do as I say, not as I do” or, in fact, proof that Zeitgeist is finally abandoning their ironic “no photos” policy so the bartenders can tweet out pics of their tats.  No matter, this whole “social media” push, coupled with their removal of the disgustingly endearing portapotties last summer, leaves me worried that the Zeitgeist I once knew is hanging up the sleeveless jean jacket and getting a desk job.

Bird About Town

Okay, I'm just going to come out and say that this tumblr fucking rules. Why?  Because some person just carries a bird (named “Patricia Dolores”) around San Francisco, takes photos, and buys weed.  Yes, really.

Not only does it reaffirm that the Mission is evolving into a neighborhood of pirates, but its subject matter is priceless.  Just look at some of the San Francisco celebrities that have posed with this avian adventurer:

Former mayoral candidate and city supervisor Bevan Dufty.

Frank Chu

The most prolific businessman in the Mission.

But, obviously, your bird needs to see more than just people.  Why not drag your winged pet to…

… a Giants game…

… or perhaps a kinda gross protest with a kinda cool cause?

And sometimes, a bird just needs to chill with the regular people:

An imposter Snacks the Cat Girl.

Human tree branch.

There's 17 pages of the bird hanging out with drug dealers, in coffee shops, on homeless people, and taking bike rides.  Give it a look.

Beloved Local Photographer Julie Michelle Needs Our Help

For the last three years, Julie Michelle has been chronicling the lives of the people who make San Francisco the beautifully odd place that it is.  And not just the internet-savvy crowd we tend to hear the most about.  No, her venerable I Live Here: SF project has touched upon the lives of nearly every breed of San Franciscan from every neighborhood, from Tenderloin poets, Mid-Market cat-callers, and familiar Mission mariachis to adopted cats.

But tragedy recently hit Julie's life and now one of her past subjects is organizing to help her out.  Tucker Perry fills us in:

Julie Michelle of ILiveHereSF.com needs some help. Lee, her partner of many years had a massive stroke recently. We're throwing a fundraiser event to help them get a handle on the massive expenses that come along with getting sick these days.

We're hosting a party at the San Francisco Motorcycle Club (shot by Julie Michelle here) on Sunday the 18th from 3:00 to 7:00. There will music, drinks, good people, and a raffle. Donations will be gladly accepted in person, but if you can't make the event, there is a ChipIn campaign already running here.

You can go RSVP for the benefit right here or go ahead and donate to help cover the medical bills and other related expenses insurance won't cover.

Bike-Filled Photo Show You Most Definitely Should Check Out Tonight

The fine folks over at Full Frame Collective have been crushing it since they launched their cycling-centric photo collective 8 weeks ago, and now they're taking their best-of and slapping it up on the walls of Mercury Lounge.  Presumably you should get there on the earlier side of thing, else you might find yourself in a desperate search for nearby bike parking.

Mission-Made Film About Drunk Love Premieres Tonight at The Victoria, Warehouse Afterparty to Follow

I've got your Mission Friday night adventure all laid out. Some Mission filmmakers made a film in the Mission (and Wyoming)  and are premiering it tonight at an oldschool Mission cinema, and then they're throwing an afterparty at a Mission warehouse. “The Advice Of Strangers” is a stylish film about a starry-eyed lover on a drunken search for a girl after an New Years Eve party. The film was made on an $80,000 grant, so it looks decidedly unshitty, combining both gleaming color and epic high-contrast B&W.

Watch the trailer and buy discounted $5 tickets here on their Kickstarter. You'll get admission ito the premier at The Victoria Theatre on 16th between Mission and Van Ness, as well as a swanky afterparty nearby. Tickets are also available at the door, but bigger donations net you photographs from local artiste Alex Greenburg.

A typical 3-D film costs you $20 that goes directly up the nose of some ass-hat in Hollywood. For much cheaper you get a full night of homegrown entertainment, and you get to keep that money in town.

People talk a lot about the local art scene. Well here it is. Make it date night, roll up with your bros, or wear your black film buff turtleneck and go by yourself.

Slideshows and short films start at 7:30pm before the feature. Facebook Event with details here. And that ticket link again.
