Violin Stolen From Car While Its Driver Helped an Injured Lost Dog

From visiting country singer Jolie Holland:

My bandmate and dear friend Carey Lamprecht of San Francisco had her violin, her wallet, and a bag of pedals stolen from her car at Mission and 16th Street. She didn't leave them in the car—she was twenty feet away making sure a lost dog who had gotten hit in the road got into the vet ambulance alright. More details about the violin and bag of pedals soon. We can all keep an eye out on craigslist and in local pawnshops. She had that violin since she was ten years old. And here's hoping the poor lost dog is gonna pull through.

Ignoring the obvious “San Francisco has a pet ambulance?” question, this is just tragic.  Do keep a lookout.

(Thanks for the tip, Jeremy!)

Feisty Cat Mural to Maul Every Pathetic Human Walking Out of Their Apartment

Okay okay okay, maybe this new work by Zio Ziegler isn't going to spring to life and ruin every man, woman, and child walking through that door with his giant paw and gnarly tongue, but we can always hope.

(And be sure to roll over to 24th and Bartlett and check it out for yourself.  The detail on this beast is nothing short of incredible.)

Good Dog of The Week: Larry the Long Dog

Welcome to Larry's world—we just live in it. Larry is a Dachshund. Larry is at the bar at Minx. Larry is wearing a neckerchief. And best of all? Positive attitude. Larry is a gentleman and I was glad to meet him.

Larry was up this week hanging out at Minx—an awesome bar in the Tenderloin, and one of my favorite in the city. If you'd like to check it out, go soon because Minx is getting shut down in the next 3 or 4 weeks because the Art Institute prudes got sick of their students showing up hungover in their 8am Sculpture and Modern Society class (4 credits). While this makes me barkin' mad, take the time this week and head up there. Tell Larry I said hi.

Fayes' 14th Anniversary Means Free Coffee & Cutest Cat Contest All Weekend

According to a big sign outside, Fayes is turning 14 years old this weekend and celebrating by giving away free coffee and charging a dollar for espressos allll weekend.  Better yet?  They're holding a neighborhood cute cat contest.

You gotta submit your cat photos on their tumblr, and they're announcing their winners on Facebook.  While it's not entirely clear on what you win, you'll presumably be honored for raising such a fine feline with even more free coffee and a few days worth of free cat promotion on their sidewalk.

HoЯndog KoЯndog

Seeing this truck, I can't help but think the poor guy ran out of room to write KoЯndog.  I'm also struggling to figure out how a HoЯndog KoЯndog would taste, but I'd imagine it would growl/obnoxiously pop its mouth at you before giving your mouth oral herpes, passing through your digestive system, and going on to record a multi-platinum album from a Bakersfield septic tank.

Happy (Belated) Birthday to Sancho!

I guess there's some other big birthday party in town this weekend, but another year passing in the life of Molotov's resident hellhound seems particularly noteworthy.  And we're sad we missed it.

Missing Boar Head Replaced with Whimsical Collage

Ever since we brought you breaking coverage of the boar head theft at Four Barrel back in April, we've been carefully monitoring the situation for new developments.  After all, with only three boars, shouldn't the place change their name to Three Boar-el?  No?  What, that was a good pun.  Stop hitting me.

As of this week the cafe's gallery was refreshed with new work by Aaron Rodriguez.  With the new art, the dotted line where the boar head once stood is no longer empty — it's now filled with a whimsical collage.

This, folks, means there is hope. If an artist can use that space, who's to say their art itself cannot be an actual boar head mounted on a wooden shield?  The act of artistic re-boarment would not only restore Four Barrel's rightful fourth boar, but would also make the artist a hero to coffee nerds who make snarky comments about their shitty iPhone photos in local blogs.

Get on it, artists.  We're counting on you.
