Fecal Face Gallery Reopens Tonight!

As previously mentioned, Fecal Face has setup shop on Mission Street (2277 Mission St., specifically) after that massive September fire in the Lower Haight.  And after a month of settling in, they're ready to open their doors tonight at 6 for their latest show, “Fake Sunset”:

During the summer of 2011 FFDG was asked to select three San Francisco based artists and bring them to Sao Paulo, Brazil to participate in the third edition of the MCD LAB shows co-curated by Brazil's NOZ.ART (Ana Ferraz, Lucas Ribeiro Pexao and Tristan Rault). Featuring hand pulled three color silk screen prints, the show opened on July 25, 2011 at Sao Paulo's LOGO Gallery and featured prints from Jeremy Fish (USA), Matt Furie (USA), Aiyana Udesen (USA), Sesper (Brazil/SP), Lucas Cabu (Brazil/SP), Fabio Bitao (Brazil/SP), Talita Hoffmann (Brazil/Porto Alegre), Anthony Nathan (Brazil/Curitiba), Lucas Torres (Brazil/Belo Horizonte), and Alberto Monteiro (Brazil/Rio de Janeiro).

After traveling throughout Brazil during this past Fall, FFDG will host the only US stop for the exhibition on display for 2 weeks with an opening reception Friday, January 6th (6-9pm). San Francisco based artists Jeremy Fish, Matt Furie, Aiyana Udesen along with Brazilian artists and curators Lucas Torres, Ana Ferraz, Lucas Ribeiro Pexao and Tristan Rault will be present. All 10 prints will be for sale framed and unframed. Tecates shall be served.

Tecates! Welcoming your new neighbors to the 'hood! Let's shower them in housewarming presents! I'll bring a cup of sugar, you bring one of those weird Japanese sex pillows.

Play Strip Dreidel and Stuff Your Face with Chinese Food at Broke-Ass Stuart's Jewish Christmas Party

It's going down Christmas Day at the Make-Out Room and it pretty much sounds like the best Christmas ever:

Heeb or not, you are cordially invited to spend Christmas in the company of the “chosen” people…chosen to be alienated and bored stiff when everything is closed on Christmas, that is!

*SPEND some quality time with me!

*MARVEL at our Hanukkah bush, flown in from the guiltiest reaches of Poland, with crappy gifts afoot for everyone!

*STARE at our run of WOODY ALLEN films throughout the night, interspersed with the greatest hits of LARRY DAVID

*DROOL at the fine buffeted assortment of Chinese edibles – of the pork and non-pork varieties (veggie options)!

*GASP at the tuchuses, polkes and schmekels before you as competitors get down for prizes and glory in our dandy game of STRIP DREIDEL!

All that for ten bucks! But, of course, Broke-Ass Stuart has a line on how you can get yourself half-price tickets.

New Mission Brewery "Southern Pacific Brewing" Opening Their Doors NYE

Tablehopper alerts us to the terrific news:

After many months of permits, construction, and all kinds of headaches, SOUTHERN PACIFIC BREWING is opening for a private preview party of sorts on New Year’s Eve. The Facebook post announces: “New Years Eve @ Southern Pacific Brewing 8pm-2am. Be the first to see the space and taste the beer, Champagne toast at midnight, $3 house drafts all night long! $20 private party get on the list now!” (For those who want to attend, the link on their main website seems to work.) You will be able to taste the brewery’s IPA and pale ale that evening.

Southern Pacific Brewery is also going to be open on New Year’s Day, playing the football game and serving beers—follow their Facebook page for upcoming details on that party.

According to Tablehopper, this is a preview only—the official opening of the big Treat Street brewery (at 19th) won't be until mid to late-January.  But considering they'll be selling all their local brews for $3 a pint, I'm sure we can all give them a pass.

"A Boozy Night of Holiday Merriment" (And Sketch Comedy)

Back in July, local sketch group Killing My Lobster (featured on Uptown here here here and here) teamed up with the non-profit theater company Z Space for a one-night-only sketch comedy show a la SNL, in which the writers, set designers and actors were only given 50 hours to prepare the jokes.  That show, KMLZ, went so damn well that they're bringing it back tomorrow night (Saturday, 7 and 10pm) for a holiday edition:

San Francisco's premiere sketch comedy group, Killing My Lobster, teams up with the Bay Area's best new works company, Z Space, for a special one-night-only event:  “KMLZ Holidaze.” A little bit “30 Rock,” a little bit “Star Search,” and a whole lot of holiday madness, KMLZ Holidaze answers the question: What do you get when you lock a dozen comedic writers/performers in a room for 50 hours between Thanksgiving and Christmas? Something weird, funny, and holiday-lightful.

A veritable advent calendar of hilarity, KMLZ Holidaze will feature sketches and shenanigans all about family, tradition, that weird channel on the TV that plays the fireplace, animals singing Christmas carols, the proper spelling of Channukah, yule logs, fruitcakes, and nutjobs.

And while that sounds great n' all, Jack from Z Space let's us know that there are sprinkles on this Christmas cookie:

Not to go unmentioned— Z Space has a liquor license and full bar, and the Lobsters like to drink. This should be a boozy night of holiday merriment. If you want to see the show, buy a ticket for the 10pm performance and use the code “DrunkenLobster”. It gets you a free beer with your ticket to the 10pm show.

Local comedy and a free beer? There!

[For more insight into the 50-hour process, Theater Bay Area has a nice big write-up on the KMLZ shows]

Timeless Christmas Classic DIE HARD Returns to the Big Screen (And Win Yourself Some Tickets to See It)

By way of some Christmas miracle, The Roxie has managed to bring everyone's favorite holiday film back to the big screen for one night (This Thursday, 7:30pm).  There will be bullets.  There will be cheeky one-liners.  There will be men with goatees falling out windows (apologies if I ruined the ending).  And, best of all, 21st Amendment has thrown in a hot mess of free beer to funnel down your throat while you heckle a gaggle of greedy Germans.

So here's the deal: you can go buy your tickets now ($10! Hella free beer!) or like this post on Uptown's Facebook page for a chance to win a free pair of tickets to the assuredly wild screening (winner randomly selected Wednesday at noon!).

In the meantime, here's one for the road:

The kids are doing just fine without you

Saturday I was off eating brunch or some dumbshit that adults in this town do when I get a text from a rap blogger friend that just says “Jerkin battle at the japantown ymca.” Well considering that's around the corner from me and I'm not doing shit but lame brunch I figure fuck it, I'm rolling. Turns out it was the Bay vs LA jerkin battle and homes was there to talk to Young Sam and that's why he knew about it. I hadn't heard shit on the streets aka the internets but thought, shit this could be cool.

We were definitely the oldest people there to witness a sea of brand new snapbacks and jerk shirts cheer teenagers doing some crazy ass moves. I don't know how many of you internet reader motherfuckers know about Jerkin but it's a style of music that for the most part people have forgotten about since it popped off a few years ago. The New Boyz got a deal and then fools tried to act like it never happened but the kids keep it alive. Shit was all fun but then this fucking kid breaks out his goddamn moves. Just watch this video until about the 19 second part and get your mind blown. I don't even know how you get your body to do shit like this but this kid is fucking crazy dope.

I gave up on watching breakdance battles years ago, I hate when dudes start uprocking in the club now, it's fucking annoying but really I can't front I had fun watching these kids get loose and just enjoy their scene.

Bike-Filled Photo Show You Most Definitely Should Check Out Tonight

The fine folks over at Full Frame Collective have been crushing it since they launched their cycling-centric photo collective 8 weeks ago, and now they're taking their best-of and slapping it up on the walls of Mercury Lounge.  Presumably you should get there on the earlier side of thing, else you might find yourself in a desperate search for nearby bike parking.

Mission Yams, Concert and Food Drive From Indie Mart and Fog Night Reader, Goes Down TODAY

Pedro tells us why we should be there:

We’re having another party, this time on the El Rio patio! Headlining are our friends Melted Toys who put out a record earlier this year on Underwater Peoples - the trio are currently working on new material with producer Chet ‘JR’ White (Girls). The dudes in PreTeen are down for the cause, our homie Zane (TINT) is going to treat us some vibey jams, and we’re stoked for french import: La Feline. Primo from Oldies is DJing, Indie Mart will have some booths, and maybe some surprises! Also, if you bring a can of food, you’ll get discount at the door — that’s to benefit the Dolores Shelter Program!

The party starts at 2, will run you $7 ($5 with canned food donation), and promises some drunk Martha Stewart action.  Additional information, including reasons why donating to the Dolores Shelter Program should be on your agenda, over at The Night Fog Reader.

Mission-Made Film About Drunk Love Premieres Tonight at The Victoria, Warehouse Afterparty to Follow

I've got your Mission Friday night adventure all laid out. Some Mission filmmakers made a film in the Mission (and Wyoming)  and are premiering it tonight at an oldschool Mission cinema, and then they're throwing an afterparty at a Mission warehouse. “The Advice Of Strangers” is a stylish film about a starry-eyed lover on a drunken search for a girl after an New Years Eve party. The film was made on an $80,000 grant, so it looks decidedly unshitty, combining both gleaming color and epic high-contrast B&W.

Watch the trailer and buy discounted $5 tickets here on their Kickstarter. You'll get admission ito the premier at The Victoria Theatre on 16th between Mission and Van Ness, as well as a swanky afterparty nearby. Tickets are also available at the door, but bigger donations net you photographs from local artiste Alex Greenburg.

A typical 3-D film costs you $20 that goes directly up the nose of some ass-hat in Hollywood. For much cheaper you get a full night of homegrown entertainment, and you get to keep that money in town.

People talk a lot about the local art scene. Well here it is. Make it date night, roll up with your bros, or wear your black film buff turtleneck and go by yourself.

Slideshows and short films start at 7:30pm before the feature. Facebook Event with details here. And that ticket link again.

Bicycle Pinup Party Tonight at Photobooth

Thought You Knew's somewhat controversial bicycle pinup calendar is making its West Coast debut at tonight at Photobooth.  Photobooth promises the presence of lovely ladies, sexy pinup art, hot bikes, and hella tintype photography—presumably this show is BYOB.

For the unfamiliar, this is what TyK's calendar is all about:

Beyond putting the most slammin’ hot pinups possible onto a calendar page, TyK is dedicated to helping women become more confident. Confident not only on their bikes, but in the rest of their lives. Cycling once freed women from the strict requirements of fashion, providing an excuse to untie their corsets and don bloomers rather than long skirts. The mobility that a bicycle brought to those women was even more empowering.

TyK’s pinups draw on that same tradition of empowerment through the personal mobility, while also letting women find confidence in the ownership of their sexuality. The experience of being the center of attention during their photo shoot does not fade when the lights go down and the hairspray washes out. Each woman carries her pinup self with her wherever she goes, into board rooms or bike shops.

TyK's Alexis Finch also describes the project as a way to break down the pervasive stereotypes of women in the cycling world as being either “totally girly or as one of the guys.”

A pinup girl owns her sexuality. The tiny little peek of an ankle that you get to see; it's the flirtatious look over a shoulder. It's about knowing what you've got, and giving it out in whatever dose you feel like giving it. For women in the cycling community, where your sexuality has been so much of a detriment to being taken seriously…if you can realize the power that that has, it makes it a lot easier to walk in to a shop and be like: yeah, I got all this, but I also know how to fix a flat.

You can read more about the project over at The A.V. Club, or just head over Photobooth (1193 Valencia @ 23rd) tonight at 7.
