OUT SIDE ART Block Party Promises to "Finish" The Banksy "Mural"

Today Uptown Almanac is partnering with the Make a Wish Foundation to make Blah's wish come true:

Chris Orr was asking me to post about this on his radio show last week.  At the time, I figured I'd wait until the week of the event to post it up, but I don't want to disappoint our audience.

You can find out more about the event on its facebook page (warning: facebook just redesigned their event page and it looks awful and just reading it makes my eyes bleed).  There will be a bunch of DJs and people “finishing” the mural that Banksy “started.”  As reader Milu noticed, local artist Chor Boogie already started:

See y'all there!

Street Food Turns Into Casanova Lounge for Food Dorks

Do you like Street Food?  Are you single?  Are you shitty at picking up people in bars?  Well, you're in luck.  July 27th at 7pm on Linda and 19th, the street food clan is having a “stop light party.”  That's right, dress your relationship status:

  • Green: Single
  • Yellow: Complicated
  • Red: In a relationship

I'll be the guy dressed in black, the color of my soul, and wearing a messenger bag full of 40oz.  See you there!

GGGGOOOAAAAALLLLLL

I think it is great that SundayStreets will be bringing the World Cup to the sun deprived residents of the Mission, but I can't help but wish they were showing it Dolores Park again this year:

* Little known fact: whiny people blame the 2006 showing of the World Cup in Dolores Park as the major cause of the park's modern day popularity.

I Made My Last DJ Mix as Sick Face

I can assure you, little to no people will care about this, and yet here we are. I've DJed and produced music under the name Sick Face for many years, but tonight I will be putting that moniker to rest, as well as bow out of the 'DJ game' for a good while. I'll be performing my final DJ set at the monthly disco/boogie/dance music party Grow Up, which kicks off tonight at Madrone around 9 p.m, along with Jonas Reinhardt DJs, Chungtech, Hotthobo, and Fenstar. It's totally free, so you should come and get drunk and dance with other drunk people.

As sort of a last hurrah, I put together and recorded this final DJ set to share with folks the kind of stuff I'll be playing tonight. It's a lot of new-ish disco and older house tunes, plus some unreleased/previously unheard stuff. Basically, stuff no one that reads this blog will like. I stuck the player for that under this text, along with the tracklist. Enjoy!

Guys, quick! Let's prepare for Jesus!

Okay, you've all seen this so I'm sure you already skimmed past it, but in case you're still reading, I'll provide you with some quick tips on how to prepare for Jesus, since, let's face it, you're probably not ready. If this lady is spending her holiday weekend asking if you're ready, then you're really not ready.  If you're still reading this, then I know, you're not ready.

Basically one of five scenarios could happen when Jesus comes.

1. Pool Party: Think back to Noah's ark. Now think about that “I'm on a Boat” song. Now throw in like 100 wild animals. THINK OF ALL THE PSEUDO HIPSTER GIRLS THAT WOULD BE ALL OVER THAT. You're so ready. Bring your ironic towel.

2. Apocalypse: Jesus will dim the lights and say “it's about to heat up in here!” Then some crappy drum music will kick in and suddenly it's that dance party that you always talk shit about, but you really want to go to, but no one wants to go with you, so you just sit at home and drink PBR and talk about how American Apparel has really sold out, but you're still wearing their clothes because, dude, you bought it before they sold out, and your parents haven't given you money in a while so you can't buy anything else. But whatever, heat does some cool stuff to lomo film so don't worry about the end of the world, worry about your next Facebook photo album.

3. Super Zombies: Didn't Jesus come back from the dead? Wouldn't this be him coming back from the dead twice? Aren't zombies totally hip and cool right now? This could be the next big iPhone app. Developers, get on this, you could be rich, but the world would also be over, so it's a toss up.

4. Wes Anderson Film: Jason Schwartzman could play Jesus and it'll show Jesus doing his little Jesus daily tasks with the Alec Baldwin voice over: “Jesus Son of God wakes everyday at 6 am to the Beatles 'Good Morning, Good Morning' because his first grade school crush once said “if you don't wake up to a good morning then you'll have a bad life.” He makes two eggs, fried, for breakfast but always throws one away. After he showers he brushes his teeth for exactly 15 seconds before spitting. He takes his coat with him to work even when it's hot outside and feels guilty about air conditioning. He spends his evenings looking up drink coasters online with The Weather Channel playing on his TV. He believes cats have a greater meaning, dogs are overrated and electrolytes are complete bullshit.”

5. Shower: I mean, Jesus is coming. That could get messy.

I hope you took notes and I'm sorry for number 5, but I mean, how could I not go down that path?

Sex+Design's Death By Bikini Fashion Show & Film Screening: BE THERE

A short film by Brawlio Elias will be screened, featuring knitwear bikinis by a very talented local designer, Magdalena Trever.  There will be DJs, drinks, models mingling in bikinis and free PLOOM tobacco vaporizer tastings, which I can personally attest to be delicious. It'll be a sexy, fun evening and you don't want to miss it.

Sex+Design is a new local online fashion & culture magazine; peruse at your leisure. Just based on Faggus Howard's writing in the Fashion section I can tell these guys throw a great party.

Death By Bikini is happening this Wednesday, July 7th, at Harlot in SOMA. 8pm. $10. See you there.

Thee Oh Sees, Sic Alps and More at Serra Bowl in Daly City

It's not often that I get excited about a show in Daly City (well, there is that epic Slayer, Megadeth, Testament show at the Cow Palace in August), but check this out: Thee Oh Sees, Sic Alps, Fresh & Onlys join headliners Eddy Current Suppression Ring this Saturday at Serra Bowl. For FREE! All ages and whatnot too. Plus bowling. And judging by the map I just looked at, it seems highly Bartable. Put together by the fine folks at The Bay Bridged. I will be there and will challenge anyone of you to a game of bowling as long as you promise not to crack 100.

Calder to Warhol: Introducing The Fisher Collection, Now at SFMOMA

Opening today and running through September 19, 2010 the SFMOMA will be showcasing their latest exhibition entitled, Calder to Warhol: Introducing The Fisher Collection. The Fisher Collection was recently promised to the SFMOMA on a 100 year loan, just two days before Donald Fisher died (phew!). The collection boasts more than 1,100 works from the monumental collection of Gap founders Doris and Donald Fisher. Donald Fisher previously attempted to build a museum dedicated to contemporary art in the Presidio to house the Fishers extensive collection in 2007, but withdrew the proposal last July.

Calder to Warhol: Introducing The Fisher Collection, will display more than 160 works by seminal artists from the collection such as Alexander Calder, Chuck Close, Anselm Kiefer, Gerhard Richter, Richard Serra, Cy Twombly, Agnes Martin, Andy Warhol, amongst many others. The works will be on display on the fourth and fifth levels of the Museum, and will also occupy the Rooftop Garden, displaying the Collection's strengths in large-scale sculpture including works by Alexander Calder, Mark di Suvero, and Beverly Pepper.

The Introduction exhibition is sure to be an exciting preview of what's to come at SFMOMA. With the addition of the Fisher's Collection, one of the best collections of modern and contemporary art in the world, plans to reveal expansion designs in 2011 and the completion of said expansion coming in 2016, the SFMOMA has been rumored to be on the fast-track to rivaling the greatest museums of modern art—  the Tate Modern in London and the New York City MoMA.

TATTOOS, 60S SOUL + DRUNK

I've seen some videos past month's parties and basically it's an orgy of PBR 24s, video of people skateboard/riding fixies/smoking 'mad herb' on a projector and a metric fuckton of tattoos.  Should be fun!
