Fly Origami Street Art Graces Side of the Asian Art Museum

Tim Hallman, the Asian Art Museum's Communications Director, dropped us a line about the beautiful piece:

I think the Asian Art Museum got “tagged” by this famous Parisian street artist.  No confirmation from the artist yet, though. It appeared overnight on the McAllister Street side of the building, near Hyde. We didn't hire her, but we like it.

The artist in question is Mademoiselle Maurice, who has been lighting up the streets of Paris, Hong Kong, and Vietnam with her rainbow-patterned origami art for the past few months.

Here are a few close-ups:

And here's a short vid of her putting up a piece in Paris three months ago:

Update: TheUpSide is taking credit for the work.

(Thanks, Tim!)

Rad Dog Returns to Dispense Terrible Dietary Advice

After laying low for a year or so, the overbite Rad Dog has returned to dish out some ever-necessary dinner recommendations.  This time?  In the Dolores Park portapotties, generally the last place I want to be while thinking about what's for dinner (although the floor of the thing looked a whole lot like a slice of Escape).

On a related note, it seems like the city in going into the portapotties with steel wool or something and scrapping tags off the plastic walls, which has to be one of the gnarliest jobs left in the city.

Ronald McDonald Fights to Protect the Mission's Irish Heritage

I guess Ron McDonald is getting worried that recent foodrification of Valencia Street might upset the tradition Irish/Latino working class nature of the Mission District, because he's perched up on a building on 18th and Valencia, lunging molotovs at people even considering eating at Farina Pizza.  And it's driving him positively fucking crazy… just look at that mug:

Business Casual Giraffe

Calm, cool and collected business casual giraffe has completed her interview skills workshop and is excited to speak with you about employment opportunities and how she may contribute to your team by reaching for the top shelf of the supply closet.

As seen on Valencia, next to some high-priced green restaurant.

Crazy Talented SF Muralist Zio Zeigler Launches Web Store!

After dangling the carrot on his Instagram and Tumblr feed for about 3 weeks, Zio Ziegler has finally launched his webstore, Arte Sempre. You might recognize his work from the side of the Sycamore, or from this new collaboration with Ian Ross, up on Church & Duboce. The new webstore features mostly tshirts and a hat or two - here are some designs we plan on swooping:

The Birth of the Mission

Revolution Cafe replaced that old haphazardly painted community mural with a new piece detailing the “birth of the Mission,” featuring a pair of Native Americans, Mission Dolores, Cesar Chavez, and some tripped out fog.  I'm sort of surprised that they left out a silhouette of a gold prospector riding a taco, but I suppose they ran out of room.
