I can assure you, little to no people will care about this, and yet here we are. I've DJed and produced music under the name Sick Face for many years, but tonight I will be putting that moniker to rest, as well as bow out of the 'DJ game' for a good while. I'll be performing my final DJ set at the monthly disco/boogie/dance music party Grow Up, which kicks off tonight at Madrone around 9 p.m, along with Jonas Reinhardt DJs, Chungtech, Hotthobo, and Fenstar. It's totally free, so you should come and get drunk and dance with other drunk people.
As sort of a last hurrah, I put together and recorded this final DJ set to share with folks the kind of stuff I'll be playing tonight. It's a lot of new-ish disco and older house tunes, plus some unreleased/previously unheard stuff. Basically, stuff no one that reads this blog will like. I stuck the player for that under this text, along with the tracklist. Enjoy!
Race organizers plan to announce today that the 100th running of the world-famous, 7.46-mile footrace will take place May 15, 2011 - only this time, “there will be no alcohol, period,” race spokesman Sam Singer said.
…
“Bay to Breakers is very concerned that someone is going to get hurt or worse because of the overconsumption of alcohol,” Singer said. “Unfortunately, people can't control themselves.”
I personally don't see how they could enforce the ban, but the fact that they are keeping this drum beat going for yet another year gives me the willies. They claim police will be “arresting” people drinking beer, yet last year I was cracking beers and watching people urinate right in front of cop's eyes. Are the police really going to pull a 180 and start enforcing these laws?
Also, I hate to tell you this, but people can control themselves. We just don't want to.
I saw in the SF Appeal that Police Chief Gascon doesn't expect any “problems” in San Francisco following the verdict in the Oscar Grant trail: “[there is] absolutely no evidence… that will lead us to believe there will be any problems [in San Francisco].” Now, I clearly don't have a pulse on what's going on in the city activist ring like the police, but just walking around the city, it's hard not to come across a lot of Oscar Grant street art, suggesting that people in SF give a shit about the outcome and are clearly motivated enough to vandalize property even before the verdict. Is that not evidence of potential unrest? For example, one of my favorite Flickr users, Terry B., snapped the above Banksy-esque poster on Linden St. yesterday. Or you can just roll to Valencia.
Then again, anyone interested in smashing windows will probably just head over to Oakland.
What with their new future-bridge logo, the possibility of Larry Ellison buying the team, and the above information from the obviously hilarious Warriors beat writer Marcus Thompson it seems to leave little doubt that King James will be announcing his signing with Golden State tomorrow night. I know I shouldn't be posting about sports on San Francisco's number one rated hipster blog, but seeing as I almost got beat up by one of the Uptown writers for talking smack about the Red Sox last week, I figure it's okay.
Even though I can never remember the name of the appliance store on Bartlett at 21st, they have the most stylin' mannequin on the pale side of Mission St.
Daniel Jarvis peeps us to his 4th of July moving picture show set to the music styling of The Downer Party. Makes me wish I had the requisite stupidity to drink and drive through the city of San Francisco*
