I was surprised not to see "Trust Fund", but then I realized that must be implicitly assumed to be all of the space not actually covered by one of the other words.
I'm inclined to agree. I've met tons of people with really rich parents that might pay their rent or whatever, but I don't know that I've ever actually met someone that was living off of a trust fund.
In this case the difference is that a trust fund is a collection of money set aside for the purpose of providing the beneficiaries with a metered distribution of the money in the fund over time, as opposed to a parent having to be contacted (or burdened with having to actively manage the money for the child) every time the child needs money.
Typically when I've met people with trust funds, it has been from insurance money "gained" due to the loss of a parent, in which case that child would probably rather you stick his/her trust fund up your ass than not have a parent.
An alternate example of a trust fund vs. parents giving money would be comparing a person from a wealthy family to a person with rich parents. Due to the tone of your question seeming rather hostile towards the beneficiaries of this financial support, I'm assuming you would probably have more of a problem with a person who receives money from their parents as opposed to having a trust fund. Rich people are probably the ones that you dislike (semi-warranted, I'll grant). Then again, you may be upset with wealthy people because you're jealous.
Which one is it, Logan? Are you jealous of wealthy people because you're going to have to work for it if you're ever to amount to something, or are you mad at rich people because they make you feel like a failure?
Hey Jake, you're not from around here are you? I can tell, especially with the sentiments expressed in the last paragraph. You know what, not everyone is on the same program as you, son. What does 'amount to something' even mean? And who are you to pass judgement? Not everyone cares about their "legacy", status mongering, chasing fame, or striking it rich. Some people are cool with just getting by in their day to day and living life. It's people like you that come out here and make it difficult for people just trying to live in a place they love. Two words of advice: go home.
You're quite correct. I'm not from around here, I'm from that shitty little area in the middle of the country called "The Midwest." I'm also quite aware that most other people aren't on the same program as me--that's their prerogative and I'm totally cool with that. I'm not cool with people hating other people because they grew up rich or whatever, though. I didn't come up that way, but I've got no problem with someone that did. Which is weird, because I'm from the Midwest and can't possibly give a shit about anyone, right? Because I'm stupid, or here to drive my big-ass non-existent SUV over some cyclist on Valencia, right?
Who am I to pass judgment? I'm a person commenting on a blog, just like you, silly. But, that's an entirely different conversation.
One thing that bothers me about this (mostly because I don't understand it) is the statement (and I've heard it from many different people) about "people like me moving here and making it difficult for people just trying to live in a place they love." Do I not love San Francisco? Am I incapable of loving it because I'm not originally from here? I find that hard to believe, because this is where I call home. It's where all my friends are, it's where my job is (IN San Francisco, not Mountain View or San Jose or Palo Alto) and it's where my wife is. If San Francisco was a person, I'd take a bullet for it because I already owe it my life. But, we don't care about that. We care about people like me ruining it for everyone by doing something that all Midwesterners do, which is really bad, so bad that it's never been stated by the people that we're hurting. (Side note: What about my friends from the South or the Mid-Atlantic? Are they crushing your souls as well?)
And, for the record, fuck a legacy, fuck fame, fuck status and fuck all that other shit. I'm just a guy trying to pay off his student loans so he can start a family with a clear conscience. (Don't worry, I won't be bringing my kids to Dolores or taking up sidewalks with a double stroller when I do.)
Meh, people just don't talk about it when it's passed down. I've had access to mine since 18 and though my friends understand my parents help me out, no one actually knows.

How many people do you know with Trust Funds? We constantly hear the stereotype, but in my experience, it's not that prevalent.

an order of magnitude.

And don't forget HR people. Also, I'm sure you'll fine a lot of marketing/advertising accounts managers up on the gay beach.
you left out "Living off of Google/Zynga/Facebook/Salesforce sex partner"
