San Francisco really needs a highly capable chapter of Anonymous

Jeanmarie Guenot Also Went After Amoeba Music?

Amoeba Music’s Amoeblog, the source that broke news of Jeanmarie Guenot’s NIMBY bullshit against Slim’s, appears to have deleted all their posts about situation.  While Amoeba and “Billyjam” don’t have any thoughts on the matter, it looks like Jeanmarie and her proxy NIMBY thug “Lisa” (who may or may not be Lisa Bass, who may or may not be a glorified software saleswoman, who may or may not be the leader of the Golden Gate University’s Toastmasters chapter) are pressing on with their campaign of threatening iconic businesses and working to shut down everything that makes San Francisco the bastion of fun, freedom, and dance we all love.

Perhaps even more troubling than the fight Slim’s has been enduring is the complacency of the press and our Board of Supervisors on the matter.  The Chronicle has so far failed to find anything newsworthy about a rouge neighbor getting a club’s liquor license suspended.  The Guardian, which has largely staked their modern reputation on being the crusaders against the war on fun, hasn’t made a peep about the situation (don’t worry though, cats and dogs are the cover story).  And there hasn’t been a single local politician willing to stick up for a local business.

Yet people wonder how Bay to Breakers could possibly be in danger…

whataver, that asian dude’s sweater in the front is DOPE

Did it cross your mind – even for a moment – that you might be wrong about this matter?

You’ve never spoken with the woman. You have one side of the story, and that’s being very generous. You trash people left and right. You claim to be a crusader for the “small businessman” and the “neighborhood” but you’re not doing either.

But… if Slim’s violations are really not that big a deal, don’t you think the city’s inspectors wouldn’t have done anything about it? Why would the board of supervisors get involved if the city itself thinks it did nothing wrong?

Other *respectable* press outlets aren’t covering this “outrage” because there isn’t anything to cover. It’s not news. Certainly trashing a woman’s name in public isn’t journalism either.

Let’s try another situation – gay couple moves quietly to neighborhood in Alabama, and gets upset at the homophobic church that spews venom in their neighborhood. Church says “if you don’t like this town, get the hell out”. Whom would you be defending? Would you really love this being posted about YOU? http://uptownalmanac.com/2011/03/can-we-evict-lady-sf

Openly trashing someone in public when you know little is not only sickening, but it’s a good example of the hypocrisy that makes this city maddening. I love SF and love the people here, but you only defend your neighbors if they look and smell and dress like you. You only defend the law when it benefits you (did Slim break any laws or ordinances?). You don’t have anything to really hang your hat on, so you bring up nonsense about “defending the local small business” and then make fun of this woman’s education and language (how many SF residents have Masters degrees?).

Let’s remember at the end of the day – you’re just a two-bit blogger who figured out how to set up a page on the internet. You aren’t a journalist trying to find the truth, and you speak for no one but yourself. Lots of your fellow neighbors don’t think you’re right about this – more than you think.

shit just got real

So… when are you moving to Alabama?

Hey Sameer - take your sock puppet bullshit and STFU. This woman is a menace to the things that were here long before you, she, and the army of douchebags that come in here and want to make it Suburbia 3.0. Your almost Nazi-like analogy is bullshit, plain and simple. Slim’s doesn’t spread hatred, so you lose.

Seriously, “Sameer” if that is your real name, you’re a 2-bit asshole who spent his lunch hour belching out comments on a “two bit blog.” Who’s the asshole now, fuckwad?

I for one am an SF resident with a Masters degree. Oh, and I write for this blog on occasion.

Hi Jenny,
I have a masters too. Isn’t Shameer an odd name for a sock puppet?

There’s a silent majority of people who want SF to be run exactly like a Danville homeowner’s association so that they can go about gentrifying in peace?

UA which depicts itself as a hard hitting investigative news site has let us down. If y’all weren’t too busy posting about fart graffitti we would have known this…

Okay, I'll take the bait.

You've never spoken with the woman. You have one side of the story, and that's being very generous. You trash people left and right. You claim to be a crusader for the “small businessman” and the “neighborhood” but you're not doing either.

You are correct, I have never talked to the woman.  SF Weekly tried to reach her, but she didn't comment.  When she contacted us, she used an anonymous proxy, who refused to provide any details as to why we we wrong.  Instead of providing new information, or her point of view, to either us, SF Weekly, or Amoeblog, she issued informal takedown notices and made threats.  That's doesn't suggest innocence.

Other *respectable* press outlets aren't covering this “outrage” because there isn't anything to cover. It's not news. Certainly trashing a woman's name in public isn't journalism either.

The only reason I can think that “respctable” outlets likely are not covering this because Slim's has already stated they will make no more comments on the matter and Jeanmarie clearly isn't talking politely to 'the media'.  The Chronicle seems to have a serious issue with taking quotes or facts that was printed on the internet, so they probably don't have much to go on.

Let's try another situation — gay couple moves quietly to neighborhood in Alabama, and gets upset at the homophobic church that spews venom in their neighborhood. Church says “if you don't like this town, get the hell out”. Whom would you be defending? Would you really love this being posted about YOU? http://uptownalmanac.com/2011/03/can-we-evict-lady-sf

I appreciate the use of hyperbole, but the comparison doesn't quite hold up.  One is attacking the nightlife, culture, and society around them, the other is a hate organization.  I mean, sure, some people get their kicks going to a Klan rally, but that's a very small minority of people.  That said, I'm all for moving where ever the hell one wants, but you have to understand what you are buying into.  If you are a gay couple moving to some backwater, you should hope everyone supports the way you are, but you should also be aware that there might be people who don't.  Similarily, if you move into a nightclub district, you should hope that the clubs do their best to respect you and your peace, but be aware there will be drunk kids and some noise.  From everything that's been reported, it sounds like Slim's has done their best to meet Jeanmarie's demands.  We should only hope that she would have responded with comparible civility, but she didn't.

Other notes, I don't speak for the commenters.  If the readers of this site want to trash the woman's education/background/whatever, that's on them and that's their right, but don't claim I said it.

Similarily, we don't claim to represent anyone, nor do we claim to be “journalists.”  We write a blog about getting wasted, eating fried food, vandalizing people's shit, pinball, and having sex in public places.  It just happens that we also take an interest in politics and fighting the good fight when the media and politicians fail to.

Thanks for reading!

If you were a google search result, I’d +1 you.

Sweetie — I know your brow was furrowed and your fingers were twitching as you typed your rejoinder, but it’s comparable, not comparible.

I know, the comment was riddled with spelling in grammar mistakes. Good thing I was, you know, just posting a comment in response to idiocy.

Kevin: Well said. And much more generously expressed than I could in the face of such rampant foolishness.

LOL!

That’s a terrible comparison. One is a state and the other is a night club.

All I can say is… Boooooo! Try again.

Dumbest.
Analogy.
Ever.

Look out!
This guy’s running a sameer campaign against uptown!

You win.

I hope this was laced with as much sarcasm as my original comment was.

Which is funny because she has an FCC complaint against her for fucking her way to the top.

SEC

found the fart graffiti rather humorous, actually. Sameer has decent points, but, kind of a buzzkill. this site is pure entertainment, and so are politics in a SF. yay! dont hold back, y’all!

The Golden Rule of self-entitled hipsters: Do unto others ass you would never do unto your self.

Emphasis on ass.

Get a mirror, look in it, and get a life.

Really? Is it that hard to figure out? Go show it to your mother, all the stories and comments. See what she thinks.

maybe their mom’s are dead. asshole.

way to own it with a ‘your mom’ slam.
i’m sure everyone feels properly pwned now (that’s how you say it, right?)

classic and classy, same time!

*yawn*

Is that really the best you could do? That’s some weak trolling there son.

Go spend some time at /b/ and learn how to troll properly.

I’m Kevin’s mom. I read this blog regularly, and I don’t have a problem with what he writes.

I’m Kevin’s grandmother and I edit everything Kevin writes. My little whippersnapper, I’m so proud.

Is the NIMBY’s 9-year-old kid trolling in her defense now or something?

Thanks for this.
You’re right, it’s all part of the war on fun.
Bay to Breakers, cops on motorcycles in Dolores Park, people throwing up gates and shutting down public streets, sit lie, etc.
Thanks for spotlighting some of this bullshit so we can hopefully organize against it and save San Francisco from these narrow minded assholes that can’t find anything better to do try to control the people around them.

In a case of extreme poetic justic, it appears that the merchants and residents that lobbied for the sit lie law by screaming that the Haight had been taken over by violent lawless youth and vicious pitbulls, have succeeded in killing off a significant percentage of visitors to the Haight and their own businesses have suffered huge losses.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/01/us/01bcjames.html?_r=1

So now Kent Uyehara of FTC Skateboarding, SFO Snowboarding, who campaigned harder for the Sit Lie Law than any other merchant in the Haight, is on the board of a NEW merchants group that ” has vowed to stay clear of politics and instead promote the streets’ attractions.”
Right. No politics from this guy:

“For Kent Uyehara, owner of FTC Skateboarding on the same block, the gangs of thugs are all too real. Just the other day, he was walking with his elderly mother and 10 intimidating youth with scary-looking dogs blocked the entire sidewalk and refused to move.
“Am I going to say something in that situation? Absolutely not,” Uyehara said. “It’s a fear of retaliation.”“

“Kent Uyehara, the owner of a Haight Street skateboard shop, hosted today’s event. He said a group of merchants and residents, the Civil Sidewalks Coalition, are trying “to take back our neighborhoods.”“

I wonder what would have happened if all of the energy spent on this comment thread had actually been spent on the issue at hand in an attempt to, you know, get involved.

fwiw, the staff at Slim’s have been waging their own little war against fun against their patrons for as long as I’ve been going there (~15 years): poor sound, stingy with encores, indifferent bartenders, zero-tolerance weed smoking, etc.

Thumbs up for zero-tolerance on weed smoking! Take it the fuck outside.

Slim’s doesn’t have a patio… do they ever have in-and-out “privileges”? If not, it’s understandable if people are smoking inside.

They do have in-and-out privs, with the little roped in smoker’s area and all.

you misunderstand the whole concept of what’s going on here. this isn’t about if Slim’s is rad or terrible. if everyone thought it was as terrible as you, people wouldn’t go there and they would go out of business naturally. some people do like music though.
